    Huh?
My "progression" bar is always on the bottom center when fullscreen, and only appears when the mouse is active by default. On the player, it's the same spot it is for music...

quicktime and realplayer both suck. i only have them for their codecs, and i destroyed all associations they had with any file outside of their proprietary sh|t.

windows media is better than both of them, but for viewing most everything else, i ususally go with core media player, bsplayer, or divx player.

        The Best Media Player ever

capable of playing windows media, mpeg, div-x, real, quicktime and anything you have installed on your system.

no longer suffer from bulky ugly bmp filled front ends.

the one player to beat them all, at just about 600K with tons of options:

        Media Player Classic

Doesn't each player/etc. have its own codecs, decoders, and so forth? That's where the real difference is, afterall.

No, codecs are registered with DirectShow/DirectSound.

That's why Winamp can play all WM9 files without giving winamp any codecs.

Since 99% of media applications are just DirectShow frontends, it makes sense that DirectShow manage the codecs rather than the applications themselves.

Players can have their own decoder, but they don't need one.

I like windows media player. It is intuitive and easy to use, and it's right there in the start bar. No thinking required

"you can run windows media player on a mac? how's that work?"

It's got alot less features than the pc version - it doesn't do anything other than movies... that's fine with us macheads though - we've got itunes for that.

seriously, i don't like the idea of an all-in-one media player.

i use winamp and sonique for audio files. winamp2--not bloated, slow, and painfully irritating winamp3.

DivX Player 2.1 is the ass kicker with ATI Catalyst 3.4 drivers as those include a special video acceleration support for it, plus the program is light and works nicely. WMP and Winamp are bad for videos, in comparison to DivX Player 2.1.
