Echelon: The big US surveillance network, snooping on email, IM, forums like this, etc etc etc.

    Discuss!

I'm off to write an article on "The Corruption, Hypocrisy and Subjectivity of the Right", the resultant text here would surely be interesting in that context...

Agreed, but its less easy to see, but no less profound, how such a thing would sow the seeds for that societies destruction.

I bet the US federal government have great fun carrying out surveillance on Apolyton. I can just see the Democrat primaries being won on an anti-Fez ticket and the Republicans campaigning to get all the Communists out of Florida.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

Seriously though, it wouldnt suprise me if half of us (particularly us liberals and libertarians) were being monitored to some degree. Makes sense from the US intelligence (a contradiction in terms too often) closed minded, subjective point of view.

please don´t make the same mistake some rightwingers make here: corruptíon, hypocrisy and subjektivity is not only a phenomenon of right wing politicians.
unless you find a proper definition of right wing of course.

Of course, that is to be my conclusion... I am concentrating on the cyclical nature of the 1-dimensional political spectrum, but most of the examples of corruption, hypocrisy, subjectivity and rigidity can be found in the Right, whereas the Left tends to be more disparate and intellectual, with a core of people who emulate the right in these respects.... more soon on that.

I doubt it. The Us intelligence community already has more information than it knows what to do with.

Even if something like TIAS was implemented, there's no way they could process all that raw data.

As far I know Echelon is used for economical spying. You know corporation information gathering, invention spying, digital key signature gathering...
I don't know why US are doing so bad talk when someone would spy out some inventions for return.

Echelon is an instrument of the world-wide Anglo-Saxon Conspiracy. Aren't all English speaking countries somehow involved in it?

Yep - there's a spy station at Waihopai in NZ which is almost certainly part of the Echelon network. Been there for years, it used to snoop on phone calls - I don't know if it snoops on the net. A guy I know, a commie, used to talk to an Aussie friend of his about how they were going to blow things up just to get the SIS round to his house to ask him to stop wasting their time.

It's basically true - no one takes the time to deny it anymore and I recall them complaining about the internet making their job harder some years back.

If it was up to me, I'd blow it up.

Are you one of these people who would only like the United States if it melted down all its fighter jets and missiles, threw its borders open to anyone able to walk, confiscated every cent owned by corporations and gave it away to any government - for nothing, and legalized marijuana, and heroin, and cocaine?

If so . . . take your liberal ignorance and suck it.

Suck it, liberal! Ha ha ha!

yeah. think, if they were doing this, would we have spam mail?

If you want proof just mix in a few keywords (bomb, allah, etc...) innocously in to the next e-mail to the folks then order a credit report from your bank. If you met the right people or read the right books back in college you have no worries
