Move into DC and use mass transit and walking instead. I used to live around Dupont circle and never needed to drive anywhere. Everything was in walking distance or on the Metro.

You will save a ton of money in payments, insurance, repairs, gas, maintenance, etc. by using mass transit.

ok, not everywhere I want to go is doable by walking

my problem is when I have a lot of groceries (it takes quite a while to go to the grocery stores I like by mass transit)

or want to go to the laundery mat

or want to go to church (takes as long to get there by mass transit as to walk)

or want to leave the metro area (being an oregonian and someone who has lived all of his life out in a natural area (rural or small town) this is a BIG deal)

if I moved farther into DC, things like buying groceries might be easier, but going to school (the most imporant) would be far far harder

Here's what I did to check out cars:

At Consumer Guide Automotive, we strive to make the complicated car-buying experience less daunting, all while helping you pick out the vehicle that’s best for you. As such, we hope you find this website to be the fastest and easiest way to begin the search for your next new or used vehicle.

        I assume that you'd want a subcompact.
The car lists reviews, prices, performance, and it will even guide you to listings.
