Low cost production or no low cost production, you have to sell what you produce at low cost.
But point taken, emphasis varies industry to industry.

Cruddy, what are government "gilts"?
panag, the problem is that if I jewelry, I inherently (sp?) lose money because I can never sell it for what I got it for, because when they sell it to me, they charge for the value of the metal and the craftsmanship, but when they buy it back, they only give me the value of the metal.
Gilts are govt bonds with a guaranteed return over so many years (typically 10). Gilts is just the jargon for these bonds, as in "golden edge promise" = guilded = "gilts".
As your 2nd point to Panag, the trick is to be the person buying at bullion (metal) value and resell at jewellry value.
Try browsing a few pawnbrokers to get an idea of what's out there and don't just go for the first deal you see. Leave the cash where it is until you are happy your plans will work out the way you want.
Some cry `Allah O Akbar` in the street. And some carry Allah in their heart.

Pawnbrokers? How reputable are most of them? I was planning on buying metals from large companies and such, or bonds from the government. Pawnbrokers? I think you guys overestimate my ambition...

Like I said, browse. You don't have to buy anything - but it'll give you starting ideas over what is out there. Pawnbrokers with a bad reputation go out of business real quick (and quite often start up again under a different name - so see when company was established).
Totally right Panag. Impounded items are the cheapest, most reputable way to buy good stuff cheap. Not sure about repros (=reproduction, ie copies of older stuff) - repro isn't respectable term in UK although I suspect situation totally different in US.

hi ,
"repro" , offices who take something back if you dont pay for it , ...... "repossesing" , its then sold at low prices by baillifs , .....
without doubt the best way to get something cheap in the US of A
Panag could be right - I am not familiar with repossession jargon.
Like I said, in UK repro = reproduction copies.
Anyway, thanks for explaining your meaning Panag.

Not true.
There's very little gold used in any electronics equipment. Gold is okay as far as being an electricity and heat conductor, but copper and silver beat it hands down. Even aluminium is probably better.
The only advantage of gold is it doesn't rust.
