We're not all loaded you know.
You don't need to be loaded to get a computer orders of magnitude better than what you have now.

I have actually been trying to get hold of a cheap P400, but the friend of a friend that was supposed to be doing it seems to be stalling, for whatever reason.
I'm a student you see, so cash is quite tight.

with this you can get yourself a new nforce 2 mobo with integrated gfx and sound... and a 1700+ processor... all the rest - your auld HDD , CD, FDD, moniotor - oh... 130 £ - £30- 256 MB of 266DDR too... well?
Apart from that, you could go real cheapo... and go for ASUS NForce mini ATX for 40£ and the rest and you get a gf2MX level graphics integrated new proc, sound , and 256 MB mem ... which is all of the above for 100£
that is probable 4x the processing power of your present PC... good for all the games up to 2003 ones...

On the Taskbar, minimized windows appear the same as inactive windows that may be maximized/restored. I'd prefer if there were 3 states shown on the taskbar: Active (already has it), inactive (already has it), and a minimized state (perhaps grey it out a bit more?).
OK, I get that now. Thanks.
As for the alphabetize feature, I could've sworn it used to be there, but on my XP Pro installation I couldn't find it in the minute I checked, but TweakUI has an alphabetize/sort feature I used.
Start > Programs > (right-click) > Sort by Name arranges all the folders alphabetically. At least it does on my comp (XP Home). Is that what you meant?

Wow! Works in Win2K too!

Once again...
Make it rely less on the page file, since modern PCs have more RAM
If you have enough RAM, you can simply disable the page file entirely. I have 1 or 2 GB comps running XP with the page file disabled, and performance is quite nice.

Allow design time specification of automatically resizeable UI elements depending on screen resolution. i.e. a specified font for a button, or the button itself, could be easily defined in percentages of screen resolution, OR as a fixed element.
Right now, you have two choices - fixed UI elements so that different resolutions look weird (tiny buttons or huge ones, etc.) or UI elements created dynamically at runtime, which is slow as hell and a pain to debug.
Kernel:
Automatic tracking of parent and child processes, and cleanup of orphaned child processes automatically on shutdown of the application.
Allow application level control of pagefile behavior.

They recommend at least 512MB for it to work, 1GB is the only time I'd do it, though. Otherwise things can and do **** up.
