  • Last Voyage of the Constellation

America's Flagship, the Constellation returned today after a 7 month deployment. I over at Point Loma this morning watching her pull in. This was the last Deployment for the Connie, which is set to be decommed this fall. Since our Illustrious Commander-in-Chief is naming the next CVN George Herbert Walker Bush ( ), we'll be without a Constellation for awhile.

Also returning are the Crusiers Bunker Hill, and Valley Forge, the DDG Mileus, and the Frigate Thach. The Bunker Hill is my ship, and after I broke my leg I had to sit it's deployment out when it left in January to join the Connie.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

The Midway or Coral Sea would be cheaper, I bet.

Who would want to sail on the CVN GHWB?

Is there a list of presidents now? We had the Ronald Reagan, so we get the Bush 1? Is the next CVN then the William Clinton? (the party ship of the navy )

Why wouldn't USS Bush be the party ship? Don't you like bush?

What the world really needs it the USS Grover Cleveland. Sounds better than the USS George Herbert Walker Bush.

We need to farm out naming ships to the Brits. You guys come up with some bad ass names for ships.

That's true. No-one in their right mind would want to piss with HMS Invincible or HMS Brilliant going by name alone.

So what happens to the Constellation now? Museum? Training ship? Sell it to Chad? Break it up for beer cans?

Can't, that would be a lie.

I was hoping it would be named Ranger, or Saratoga, or Reprisal but Dubya wanted to name it for dear old Dad.

Ah!!! So now that explains why the USS Enterprise was Constitution class on Star Trek. Just proves TOS was part of cold war propaganda, a kind of imperialist dogma.

If they follow the current practice....chop it into razor blades for gillette.
