I went from a small city to a big city as well. It is quite a culture shock as you say. Don't give up!
You call Wichita a big city?

        Good luck Ix !
SD is a city I enjoyed very much as a tourist (granted, I only stayed there a week). Do you American students use to have summer jobs when you replace vacationers ? If yes, there is a quite dynamic information-economy there, so summer jobs should be quite easy to find for you

I think the cuture shock of living in Cali. will be bigger than the one of living in a city.

as you can see, Cali is a state of that shiney mappy nature crap, full of wonderful heros to emulate. i hear it's made of marshmellow too.

You'll need a car in SD, so forget about that bike and Public Transportation crap. PT in SD is pretty lousy. One person told our friend (who is mixed), "Only homeless and Black people ride the bus."

Consider what JohnT said. It's pretty expensive to live in CA.

                      we have buses?

PT suks in Cali, it is almost non-existance anywhere outside of the Bay Area...

It isn't cheap to live here, what with the democrats running/ruining everything and all...

Well, I made it here safely. I'm quite tired from travelling, though. But things are cool.

SD is nice, as a tourist. But any place is worse when you move to it.

I don't know about that. I enjoyed both New Orleans and New York more as a resident than as a tourist.

Hey Ixnay - if you run into Carl Durrenburger in SD, tell him The Templar Says hi!

That's funny, I never had problems getting where I wanted to go with Public Transportation when I lived in San Diego.

It depends on where you live. If you live any where near the trolly or down town then PT is . Other wise you are in car country boy.

                                BTW for your job search:

and don't forget the temp agencies especially since you're only going to be there for a few months. Take your girlfriend to the marine room restaurant, on the prado restaurant, or any of two dozen places downtown. Lastly, pick up a copy of the Free Weekly Reader to get a feel for things to do, places to go, and upcoming events. I only wish I was going back to SD too.
