  • Help chegitz get his neck a little redder

You know how we commies just love the color red.

Anyway, I'm startin' to build a classic country music collection, and I'd like some pointers. Now, don't gimee any of that modern country crap that sounds like 80s lite rock with a Southern accent.

I like stuff like Johnny Cash, Waylan Jennings, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette.

I'll start with Ray Charles' Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. Willie Nelson points to this album as his inspiration.

BTW, I HIGHLY recommend the latest Johnny Cash cd, American IV: The Man Comes Around. "Hurt," and "Personal Jesus" aer simply ****in' amazing!

Hank Williams (senior). You'll be surprised how man songs you've heard before and how much influence you can see going to modern and "classic" country and even to rock and roll. Listen to the lyrics phrasing especially. And his stuff is al early 40's. There is a decent 2CD collection.

For other older stuff, I like The Sons of the Pioneers, "cool, clear water".

And I like that song about "Down in the West Texas town of El Paso..."

I don't know much classic country, che. I listen to the '80s lite rock with an accent' just about exclusively. Now I'm only waiting for Alan Jackson to get some electric guitars and I'll be set.
