I was thinking today as I played chess, to pass the time, with an older fellow at a public atrium in NY. I was thinking, man I've seen this guy round for ages and he is here almost every time I come here and he hasn't gotten any better. I have only slightly improved myself but this thread isn't about my judgement it's just about the realization I had...
It seems most people aren't really "going anywhere" in life : they wake up each day, work, perhaps read the newspaper (and forget 90% of it by the next day), eat, watch tv & sleep. Their lives change little from year to year except by outside circumstances.
Are you building anything? By building I mean working towards a goal, accumlulating skills, ideas, resources, etc. A year from now will you be able to somehow physically measure your progress?
Is this even important to you?
Myself, I have been drifting for too long now. I am the type that gets very irratable and frustrated when I am without direction. I hate being aimless but I don't like settling on an aim I know is not truely important to me.
I'll shut up now and let people reply.
