        AFAIK the left hand thingie comes from the Middle East/Near Asia, not Southern Europe. Though I'm not sure if it still happens today, I thought it was mostly a thing of the past. I do know you should still never shake hands with a Muslim with you left hand, regardless of where he's from (apart from Western countries maybe), but I thought that was more based on tradition than on current practices.
