now putting cameras on the officers is going too far. It isn't practical and may interfere with their movement. That just sends a message that you don't trust them, and they are scum.

Yes, we definitely need more cool police officers, just like "the man with no eyes" who wore those cool sun glasses in the movie "Cool Hand Luke". They'll be able to resolve "communication problems" just as coolly as "the man with no eyes" did in the movie. Then the films of their communication resolution techniques can be aired on cool shows like "the World's Scariest Police Chases". Just let me know the date, time and channel so that I can make popcorn in advance!Originally posted by Lawrence of Arabia
Well, maybe thats the message I want to send. I dont trust them. I only trust the cool ones.

When that person is also armed with a firearm. If they are using mace on you for no reason, what's to stop them from using a firearm? Nothing, outside of your own firearm.Floyd, since when is shooting someone a proper response to being mased?Follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/DaveDaDouche

Uhhhh... that's a good way to get yourself killed.Originally posted by Lawrence of Arabia
If a cop if beating your ass, resist. I don't know about pulling a gun and shooting him (because killing someone takes a lot of strength) but if you find a handy metal chair, or metal bar, or mace, or fallen signpost nearby, use it.
If they are beating you, any action you take in your own defense will just lead to a harder beating... picking up a metal chair, bar, or whatever, will lead to you get shot for resisting arrest. Even DF understands that one
Your best bet is to bring charges later... Not a great solution at the time, but it's the only real choice you have.Keep on Civin'

I would be as cooperative with the police even here in Argentina to avoid getting beaten to a pulp.
Lawrence, I don't know about you, but it isn't wise to piss off a cop.
And besides if you kill the cop, I would support getting you indicted for murder all the way.For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

I suppose the same logic can be applied to a man who has a gun in his home and slaps you on the back? After all, if he'll do that, what's to stop him from shooting you? When that person is also armed with a firearm. If they are using mace on you for no reason, what's to stop them from using a firearm? Nothing, outside of your own firearm.

Maybe not wise, but if they start beating you up for no reason, they are usually already pissed.Lawrence, I don't know about you, but it isn't wise to piss off a cop.
And the alternative is to end up like rodney king. Get the crap beaten out of you, then go to court and lose it. Rightt.. I'd rather get shot.Uhhhh... that's a good way to get yourself killed.

orange,
A slap on the back isn't an assault. Being beaten with a nightstick is. Duh.I suppose the same logic can be applied to a man who has a gun in his home and slaps you on the back? After all, if he'll do that, what's to stop him from shooting you?
LoA,
Let's see, Rodney King...as I recall, wasn't he both high and resisting (lawful) arrest? And the alternative is to end up like rodney king. Get the crap beaten out of you, then go to court and lose it.Follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/DaveDaDouche

Maybe not Assault, but Battery for sure...
Besides, I never said that it was assault.Law. The unlawful and unwanted touching or striking of one person by another, with the intention of bringing about a harmful or offensive contact."Chegitz, still angry about the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991?

Since when does backslapping have any connotations of either assault or batterY?
orange, come on, you know as well as I do that isn't what battery is, unless it is intended as such, which it isn't. Ever.Follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/DaveDaDouche

I suppose, and if you obviously intend an assault by slapping someone on the back, you better hope you're not carrying a deadly weapon, and that your victim isn't either. Again, if you assault someone while carrying a gun, you should be (and AFAIK are) fair game.you could slap someone on the back attempting to cause them pain, could you not?Follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/DaveDaDouche

But oversight boards are always a good idea like I said above.
