Bagels are inherently Jewish? Well, they're inherently central and east European, thus lots of Ashkenazi Jews eat them. Sephardi Jews, however, are from the Mediterranean areas (originally Spain) and, until at least the last 75 years, were the majority of Jews in the Low Countries and Britain. I don't know about now, though.

Sects is not the right word. This is kind of through ethnicity - tho the DNA is basically the same - as in Central-Europe descended or Spain-descended. Better term might be tradition, though I'm a little uncomfortable w/ that as well. Yes - An onion bagel with salmon cream cheese spread unites the various elements that are Apolyton. (though I prefer real smoked salmon & Winnipeg style cream cheese.)
