Drink Drivers are the scum of the earth and should be sterilised with rusty gardening shears.

Your threads are always way serious

First I want to say that drunk driving is taken very seriously here, and it is a shame that ppl still do it.

I would suggest that every get those breathalizer ignitions.

First time offenders, mistermeanor is fine, larger fine, longer time without liscence.

Second time offenders should be charged with a felony.

Third time offenders should be held to the 3 strikes law.

I would also suggest that everyone learn to drive drunk before attempting to do so

Way to go out on a limb to condemn drunk driving! It's about time somebody realized this was a problem!

who would buy a car like this?? This must also go against some basic right we have.

The answer, quite simply, is to remove the car from the equation. I've been on buses and trains with drunk people, and while drunk. It's a minor inconvinience but far safer than having that drunk person driving.

                Ban Cars
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

Drink driving has been a major social taboo in this country for years. It's still a problem, of course, because some ****wits keep doing, but generally speaking things have improved a lot. Is it really so hard to get people over there to admit that drink driving is a very bad thing?

There are some really brutal anti-drink driving advertising campaigns they run, especially around Xmas, that are rather disturbing.

There simply needs to be more programs and alternatives for people who get drunk.

There are services in Calgary, for instance, where you call them and they'll come pick you up and drive your car home for you (sometimes for a fee, sometimes not).

Public transit is also free and runs late on nights where heavy drinking is the norm (ie, New Years' Eve)

Of course, the easiest and cheapest solution is to have a designated driver. I'm not much of a drinker, so that's usually me.
