"san", does that mean he's a saint or something?

I thought his name was Jose Marti.

Well, depends who you want to make a "saint". Its not like San Martin was a saint either.

it was Jose Marti, what people want to call him besides that, well, whatever. Marti was an inspirational figure-got himself killed rahter quickly by the Spaniards.

I know that. It was this other dude, A general (?) that led to Cuban independence, right? (eyes shut... must stay awake ..)

Just go to sleep, and dream of the "ladies of a united Latin America".....

As for the Cuban general, I don;t know who. They don;t really matter, as wel all know it was the gringos that did their "liberation".

Something to change forever how you think of England.

P.S. Could someone walk me through how to attach an image from my PC to a post? I'm having trouble with it.

Algeria is kind of interesting, jumping outward when you don't expect it to.

Australia to me looks more like some sort of giant lizard or pointy-nosed rodent having curled itself up, with Tasmania as the tail.

Kazakhstan looks kinda like a sea turtle, or, from the other direction, a fish.

Spain's somewhat to blame, indirectly...The colonial structure was rather loose and localized (in the New World itself, obviously everyone answered directly to Madrid...in theory), promoting the development of regional power groups/classes which grew to dislike each other. A more centralized colonial administration could have done wonders for stability and economic development...

IMHO, if Bolivar/San Martin/some of the other "liberators" were resurrected, they'd kill themselves at the sight of the squabbling mess South America has become....

PS: Israel/Palestine (whatever you want to call it, PC or un-PC) looks neat on the map, as well as pre-WW1 Germany and the original Roman Empire....

Nova Scotia looks disturbingly like Sörmland.
