Hopefully the we will get somebody in there who's responsible and not some gun-crazy whack job. (I'm a member of the NRA, BTW)
To us, it is the BEAST.

He wasn't looking too good. I wonder how long he was operating in that condition as president. I often wondered the same thing about Ronald Reagan.

NRA is too extreme for me. They should be supporting rifles, not handguns imho . But seriously, they fight every gun law, even if the gun law is a good law. I know, if we give them an inch, they will evenentually take a mile. I suppose they feel that once you give in, they will eventually strive to outlaw guns. But I don't feel that way.

The guy they trot out to speak to the Media was a lot bigger gun-nut than Heston was, and Heston at least was and is socially centrist.

Those damn dirty Apes finally did it.

to Heston. A great American, he dedicated himself fully to protect one of our most precious constitutional freedoms. May the NRA continue to be the great force in American politics it has been.

One of the cruel ironies of Charlton Heston stepping down is the obvious need to keep guns out of the hands of certain people - like Alzheimer's patients. I wonder if the NRA would support legislation that prohibited its high-profile ex-president from owning guns. Sadly, I can probably guess the answer.
