Every part of the mainland US gets tornados, just not like tornado alley. Since yer part Midwesterner now, you'll never be able to relax during a thunderstorm again, so just give up. Even here in Florida, I still watch the skies when it thunderstorms. N.C. gets its fair share of twisters, but nothing like Kansas. In the year and a half I've been in Jax, we've had two.

Every spring I have the same nightmare. A wall of tornados are headed my way, and I have to get everyone in the cellar plus the animals and I only have a couple minutes. I didn't have it last year, but I did earlier this year.

Not too many tornado's in Asheville though... the mountains are not amenable to the type of air currents needed for tornado formation.
