Basically, my point is that Arms Manufacturing gives too much of an edge numbers-wise.
Thinking this out, I think that having a very large private Arms Manufacturing sector could be bad for your military, as the government might still have to buy their arms.
It would make little difference who they bought them from!

[SOTTO]Personally, I think Raspie fixed it like this to give his nation an edge.[/SOTTO]

If you look at most 'Western' countries around the world, they use the private sector to manufacture their arms anyway. They are all done on Defence contracts.

I am speaking from experience here. I spent 12 years in the Australian Army as an armourer and cursed ADI (Australian Defence Industries) nearly every day. Just about everything now days is contracted out (to the lowest bidder).

They'd do better nationalising things, I reckon.
It'd be a hell of a lot cheaper, and the workmanship could improve, depending on the government.
If they need cash, they can rip it out of Social Welfare, and introduce tarrifs.

actually no... i made it to resemble the USA forces and also the australian one. two extremes of the real world... '

it just so happens i have always played nation states to keep a large defence priority and industrial strength behind that...

the larger nations here have much larger armies than me as it should be, the only ones who suffered are those that have made diffenret choices at NS.....

not true at all, very rarely do national owned compaines outperform the private enterprise....

The problem is... generally this doesn't happen. Government-control seems to beget waste and stifle innovation since it depends on strict regimentation and command structures- as was detailed in the fall of the soviet union

                  In doing what?

Private companies are unsurpassed in accumlating capital, but that does not mean they are always better in creating an efficient production model.
