  • WarVoid's Poll: Who Will Actually Buy Dino's

Well, will you buy it or not?

    If it's like Dinosaurs?

    Or if it's like DinoCraft?

    Or both?

What would convince you to buy it?

  • #2
I'll buy it no matter what. Even though I don't even know what exactly it is (dino civilization? TBS? RTS?...). But if it is in the "Sweep of Time" (or something like that consisting of civ 3, SMAC, and dino), it should be good.

I really do not know enough to determine how much I am looking forward to this game to say whether I will buy it or not. But I assume it will be good and I will buy it.

I'm sorry, I'm a new poster here, but what exactly is "DinoCraft"? I realise from the context that these are ideas that have been discussed before, but what are they? Is DinoCraft just the RTS version of the idea? It is already pretty clear that it will be an RTS from the info I've read on Firaxis's web page, so why would there be an alternative? Please explain.

For the record, I will probably buy it.

DinoCraft is a take off of Starcraft and Warcraft, I presume.

I don't know if I want to buy it if it is real time. I don't like real time games. If it is turned based, then sure.

Well, this is as good a topic for a first post as any.

Every single game that Sid's put out has been interesting. I haven't liked them all, or even played them all (none of the civil war stuff, for instance). But they've all been interesting.

And given my interest in strategy games, evolution, genetics, and dinosaurs... well...

              Yeah, I'll buy it.

No, I won't buy it. I find the concept of Dinosaurs a bit of a yawn, as do most Apolytoner's, judging by the popularity of this section.
With games like Black & White coming out, I think Dinosaurs will be utterly pathetic in comparison.

Nope I won't buy, not that it looks like a bad game; but dinosaurs, if I got it I'd probably play it for a couple of hours, and put it away. I don't know but dinosaurs carry absolutely no interest for me.

It depends.. I don't think it'll interest me enough that I'll want to buy it...

                    Civ3 however...

Well, remember that dinosaurs are really just window dressing.

What really counts is the gameplay, not the shape of the pawns that execute it.

Though I do still like dinos. :>

Hey, I forgot all about this poll...

DinoCraft is Dinosaurs taking on a more sci-fi route. By achieveing transcendence into Saurians or some other fantasy ending.

The plain ol Dinosaurs will have em all evolve until a big asteroid hits the planet and wastes all the game time you spent building up your empire...

From what I can see it looks as if Dinosaurs will be Sid's first flop...

I still fail to see how you can say that, WarVoid. We know next to nothing about the game. And even if it doesn't appeal to the traditional civ crowd, there's no reason why it won't appeal to others. Think of it as diversifying. They're backing themselves and putting their heads on the line to do something they think could be good. Give them a break. If it ends up sucking, we can pull them over the coals about it then. But not now, because we still don't know enough. People are so negative! It's not like we've got to wait until this is out before they start work on Civ 3.

Midknight, you are right about your wait&see approach (you know, I must agree by contract with almost any argument you write ).

Still I don't love any company that throw some vague info to the customers, then avoid to release better info for so long.

We complained about this before, they replied by Diaries release: still they don't tell us much about the game by itself.

Who cares of Sid's adventures of watching Disney movies and eat for free?
Surely he can affoard to pay some more meals, or SMACX sell are really so bad?

I actually watch this Dino forum once a month or two, just hoping for a change.
But yes, I still will prefere that Dino will be a great game. No sense to hope for the worst scenario, IMHO

Admiral, believe it or not, I agree with you. (This contract serves us both well. ) I was also disappointed with the last diary, but it's not like they're obligated to tell us more. I'm sure we'll be flooded with plenty of information when it suits them (and their marketing department), but until then we're probably pretty lucky that we're getting the diaries at all. Yeah, it is frustrating when we want more detail, but the lack of communication recently from Firaxis regarding Dinos doesn't directly relate to how good the game is or isn't.

I guess it just bugs me when people are so quick to bag things they know hardly anything about. Consequently, others may get a bad vibe about the game rather than forming their own opinion. And that'd be a shame...particularly in a forum topic which is practically in hibernation most of the time. I'm the same as you, Admiral. I only take a quick look in here every now and then.
