  • Dinosaurs or DinoCraft: You make the vote

Do you want a game where it's a bunch of stupid dinosaurs running around biting each others heads off until one dinosaur has eaten all the others.

    Or

Do you want a bunch of dinosaurs running around in the beginning of the game. Then, by the end of the game they're flying space ships and using plasma rifles.

    You decide...

As for me. T. Rex with a plasma rifle. Yeeaahh...

Could I add a second question to that (while we're at it)?

Do you want dynamic, evolving dinosaurs that change their appearance in a reasonable model of evolution, or set dino 'units' that you 'research' in a standard tech-tree format?

    Dinos: 1
    Dinocraft: 1

    Model: 1
    Tree: 0

I like the model tree idea. Where as they change their appearence over time according to evolution.

Hmm, this seems like a nice topic, I sorta like the idea with the Plama Rifles, it makes it more exciting than just boring dinosaurs eating each other.

And I go for the tech tree idea, and to make it like in SMAC, where they can get new advances like "Spikey Tail" "Meat Eating".

Also a good idea is "Veggiesaurs" are sorta like settlers on Civ II, and "Meat Eaters" are like Soilders.

The Dinos will evolve. Why? Because it's the driving idea behind the game. The diaries' focus on evolution is testament to that.

And no, the Dinos aren't going to be doing anything modern. If people are campaigning for that and expecting it to happen, then they're going to be mightily dissappointed.

But that doesn't mean it can't be a good game. We've just got to take our civ caps off for a bit, sit back, and see what they come up with. And if it's crapola, then we can bag them about it then. Until then, why don't we give them a shot? At this stage, I don't think I'll buying Dinos, but I'm just going to wait and see what they've got.

Uh, I think the Dinocraft implication is a reference to Warcraft, not Starcraft...

After reading through the Dino Diaries, many have stated the game looks like a Warcraft-like game. (Myself included.) This is one reason some Sid fans have been questioning whether or not this game is a good idea for Firaxis. To make that problem worse, Firaxis currently has the game scheduled for a Christmas release. Guess who else is currently scheduled for a Christmas release.

A different problem some Sid fans are having with this game also refers to the civ cap reference. This is because its been stated that Dinos is a part of the Sweep of Time Trilogy that includes Civ and AC. Story-wise and progression-wise, there is a connection that ties Civ and AC together, there is clearly no such connection between Dinos and Civ.

Personally, I'm skeptical that Dinos is a good idea for Firaxis to produce both at this time and as a part of the SoT Trilogy. Scheduling this game to come out anywhere near WarIII is one incredibly bad idea. Plus, I feel thattt making a game as a part of a trilogy that is so radically different from Civ and AC is not the best idea for Firaxis.

                Sailor,

Remember that all of Blizzard's games have been released late. While I agree that making the game to much of a dinocraft would not be good for Firaxis, it might draw StarCraft and WarCraft fans that have to put up with another delay on that game. Plus, the next edition of WarCraft is supposed to be more than the typical RTS and supposed to become a RPS or something like that.

Yes WIII has been postponed again.
I have to admit I like both 'Craft' games.
*an angry mod of Apolytoners rushes at WarVoid*

But I suggest we have both games in one.
They did it for SMAC why not do it here.
And go a step farther by giving the customer everything they've asked for. (A decent scenario editor for me )

ANd i'm not saying make it JUST LIKE WC or SC, i'm saying give the customer the choice of determining his/her style of gameplay. Wheter it be modern sci-fi or classic dinosaurs. Let the customer make the decision and draw both crowds at the same time.
