  • diary #6!

    check out the next diary!
It has some really interesting points about how to raise the player's interests in his/her dinosaurs.
I particularly like the king/queen dino idea and the baby dino idea. How can you not like a cute little baby dino!
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Hopefully no dino's cry "Find the enemy!" each time you click on them. That would really turn up my emotional thermostat.

I wonder if there is any connection between the "alpha-dino" concept and the Civ III "hero" concept?

This last Diary was the most inspiring.

My favourite line is the very last:
    quote:

That's it for now. Until next time, keep it bigger than a walnut and have fun gaming.

... hopefully they don't think Apolytoners have a problem their walnuts - I mean brains!

Oooh, diary. Sounds all right, and definately places it away from Simulation and into Strategy. I think that's a good move.

I really really hope that they adapt the "dinoCam" idea to civ3! It would make the game come to life.

I like the idea of caring about your dino units and starting them off as babies but I really don't like the idea of a single King/Hero dinosaur. It'd be nice if you could bring up your babies to be good warriors/food gatherers/ baby spawners or whatever but having one game winning/losing king sounds like it'd take focus from your normal population, that dino would be the main character.

The King/Hero thing might also detract from the mutations thing that was supposed to be important.

Of course, the way to solve the King controversy is to make it a disadvantage to lose the unit, but not killing your game because of it. You should be able grow a new one at a high cost, but you could only keep one at a time. Think Tiberian Sun's Cyborg Commander, for example.

I have to say, this single Diary increased my interest in this game a thousand fold.

I like the idea of having to nurture a new leader if the head dinosaur is killed.
"Let us kill the English! Their concept of individual rights could undermine the power of our beloved tyrants!"

I think the best way to deal with the king/queen dinosaur is to have a hiarchy of the dinosaur family, like a pack of dogs. You could have the alpha male and female and they would be the dinosaurs that you would most want to have their traits passed on. The more a trait is worth the higher you put them on the chain. It would add to game play and help with the whole mutation idea.

I would like to apologize. That was my first post and this is my first time on these boards. I know see that the idea of an alpha dinosaur has already been proposed on another thread. I then do not wish to seem that I stole another's idea, just happened upon the same and thought that I was the only one.
