(However, I do know that for a few other games, such as IIRC Doom and Wolfenstein, the source code was released...)
Before or after their sequels were released

I suppose hacking the exe is out of the question? I dont support this in any way you understand, but i just wondered if something like that was even possible.

Doom was released late '93, Doom II in mid '94 and the source code (for Doom I) in '97, i suspect the community already had the source code way before 'id' released it, and did so only to stop illegal mods everywhere. There must be thousands of mods for Doom now; Batman Doom, Ghostbusters Doom, WolfenDoom etc etc, and Doom III is still much anticipated.

As I understand it, the code for the two Dooms was essentailly the same at this point (certainly all the source ports made will work with either the Doom or Doom 2 iwad), so in essence, they released the source for both Doom and Doom 2.

So all we have to do is wait for a CtP3, then sometime in the next 4 years, hack the CtP2 exe, and wait for them to release it officially.
