  • Scenario special units

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask a couple of questions; what do you think of special units - like in Alexander scenario? I was thinking of something similar in the Habsburg one I'm working on...e.g. If Charles V visits a Habsburg city then player 1 gold increases (he gets more taxes out of the citizens)...this seems historically accurate, also Charles' capture of Francis I allowed him to dictate quite incredible terms from the French (and guaranteed the hatred of Francis). Is this more fun, or does it distract?

Both it fun trying to kill special units, but you can’t use it, loss the unit and your dead.
Personally I am having a special unit but it will be hard as nails

I agree, what is needed is the loss of the unit temporarily. Say one turn (call it imprisonment) but no actual death of the special unit.

Good idea I did not think of imprisonment and just rebuild in the capitol good idea. You could also be forced to do a raid on the enemy city were you are imprisoned

Just use SLIC to destroy it, or change its ownership and prevent it moving, and then another trigger to recreate it/change its ownership back.

Great idea IW I wonder if anyone has done anything similar.

Ah well, its time a took the plunge and actually tried some SLIC like I've been threatening to do.

Big Mc I'll let you know how it goes doubt I'll have time until weekend though.

Well, the Darius code of the Alexander scenario is somewhat similar (after Darius dies he's reborn in the nearest city (in the same turn). Building in a delay would be a piece of cake, but the whole code is quite simply; you might be faster off rewriting it altogether than copying it from that scenario.

Cool!!! That would be perfect for what I had in mind....

hmmm...just thought, the imprisonment idea doesn't really apply into the modern age as missiles and planes are hardly going to imprison someone. Might just be an idea for more historical scenarios.

Also, what sort of scenarios do people prefer? Ancient, medieval, renaissance, modern, futuristic...any?

Cheers Big Mc. Us settlers need all the help we can get. How you'll regret those words!!

With help from Locutus I've got some 'adapted' SLIC working in my Habsburg scenario, but the next step is to write soem from scratch.

I appreciate the community spirit in this site. I feel that working together everyone will get CTP2 to reach its potential. I will finish my scenario idea as an attempt to repay all the help and advice I receive.
