Turn 36 to BlackIce
------------------------

Terrible news have shocked the Brazilian nation. English troops attempted to ambush a Brazilian mounted archer by the name of Leitao. Leitao had no choice but to defend himself. We urge the English nation to stop trying to bully us!

I'm sorry about reading the war started in the unknown world. El chompiras is really bored but have a dream, something like a deja'vu, about writing for the 3rd time the same:

"Our scientist are near to complete their researchs of a great state of the maind which will stop the advantages gained from the actual wonders of the world"

El chompiras start preparing the world wide fair of the mayans in the next 150 years (3 turns)

John Doe: Sir, report sir, There has been an opening of hostilities between the Brazils and the Redcoats...

Eohian: Lt. Doe, issue the following immeadiately:

It is with a heavy heart that the American people learn that our brothers and sisters in Brazil and England have gone to war. We fervently hope and pray that there will be an immeadiate cease fire and that cooler heads will prevail.

John Doe: I will issue it immeadiately.

Turn 37 --> joao paulo

History will show how the Brazilians:

Expelled English diplomats despite previous agreements that they would not do so.
Ignored friendly advice of a safe route for their horseman back to their own lands.
Did not listen to offers of negotiation over territory
Instead, launched an unprovoked attack on an English unit thereby starting a war between our peoples.
Did this when clearly the military readiness of the English showed that we are in no mood for a fight.
Soon the world will know of this despicable behaviour. Those of the other nations who send joao paulo gifts should know of the lack of Brazilian integrity.

I can't believe this!

This is preposterous!

This is my refutation:

1. A handsome amount of gold was sent to the English
for the diplomat incident.

2. The English cleverly tried to lead my horse man
into an ambush.

3. Apparently the English' greed for land has no
boundaries!

4. See number 2

5. I have had to raise the military readiness of my
troops because we are outnumbered and outmatched by
the English war machine. Don't let their low military
readiness fool you!

Thanks,

Joao Paulo

The Times newspaper of London reports that "sources" (believed to be diplomats close to the English leadership) have leaked copies of a memorandum sent by Austin Cambridge to joao paulo of Brazil. The memorandum is as follows:

joao paulo,

Please move your horseman 1 tile North and then continue East until you are close to your new Brazilian city. This is not a demand, it is advice. Otherwise the horseman will find itself stranded to the west of the English border guards with no route back to Brazilian territory.

You are probably aware now of the English/Brazilian border which extends from the South coast where you expelled a settler several turns ago to the North coast close to your horseman. The land west of this border is claimed as English, and we make no claim on land to the East.

This is not an artificial border designed to grab land. The guards are only a couple of tiles away from English cities, except for close to the North coast where there may be some room for negotiation if you feel that your lands are being squeezed between the English to the West and the Romans to the East and North. I'd be interested to hear of your explorations further
South.
In fact, the Times war correspondent understands that the Brazilian horseman travelled North and then North East where it encountered an English phalanx. The phalanx, being on a Northern coast could not move West towards its own territory and did not want to travel East which would have meant trespassing in the land around a Brazilian city. Instead it remained where it was and was unmercilessly attacked by the Brazilian horseman.

The Times believes that the second and third paragraphs of Austin
Cambridge's note are a sign of the non-aggression of the English towards the Brazilians, and of a willingness to negotiate about territory and borders. It therefore fails to understand why the Brazilians declared war, and then followed this up by mounting a worldwide propaganda campaign about English aggression.

We can only hope that the action of the horseman was not authorised by the great Brazilian leader joao paulo, that the mounted unit will be court martialed and disbanded, and that peace will be offered to the English leadership before we are plunged into a war following this unfortunate border skirmish.

Even now, English cities are reported to be gearing up their musketeer and cannon production, financed by the 13 trade routes made possible by the Labyrinth...

Speechless...

Need I say more?

Austin makes no attempt to conceal his intentions:

...
Even now, English cities are reported to be gearing up their musketeer and cannon production, financed by the 13 trade routes made possible by the Labyrinth.
I wonder what the word "stranded" means in this paragraph

Please move your horseman 1 tile North and then continue East until you are close to your new Brazilian city. This is not a demand, it is advice. Otherwise the horseman will find itself stranded to the west of the English border guards with no route back to Brazilian territory.
Austin might as well add " I claim this planet in the name of Mars... hmm... ain't it lovely?... hmm"

Turn 38 --> joao paulo

Sources close to the Times newspaper have revealed that Austin Cambridge, being the educated and civilised leader that he is, has offered peace to joao paulo of Brazil, despite being the victim of aggression, and ignoring the Brazilian propaganda that seeks to persuade the world that it was England and not Brazil that started the war.

Our war correspondent reports that the English military forces have not retaliated against the Brazilians as this is a war that the country does not want. There is uneasiness in the new English town of Newcastle where the faithful population rapidly built city walls after Brazilian forces were found to be marching towards the city.

The Times understands that Brazil has claimed that expulsion from Brazil of an English diplomat was handsomely compensated. The sources have shown that this "compensation" was in fact a refund of a previous charge made by Brazil for a visa.

The Times economic correspondent notes that more domestic trade routes have been opened in England, potentially further swelling the "war chest" if that should be necessary. However, the English treasury department has indicated that it would rather spend this wealth on economic and scientific projects, and perhaps as grants to underdeveloped nations like Brazil if only they would cease their aggression.

The Brazilian people has as much interest in war as the English do. We have therefore signed a peace treaty with the English. Unlike what Prince regent Constantine asserts, I do not demand an apology from the English. You be the judge; the facts speak for themselves!
