  • What is our strategy?

We are obviously not a warmonger state. It seems that we want to be friends with our neighbor AC and pursue science equally with them. This is fine and good but what do we want to do in the long term?

So far all we have is:
    TEAM BANANA Missions Statement

to bring some much needed humor into the world of gaming

    and still play seriously

I really think we need to define a goal or strategy for how to win this game and how we interact with the our teams. The game is fluid and always changing, but a goal and strategy can help us get through crisis.

    My 2 cents:
    * For once I'd like to see a peaceful victory in a Multiplayer game. You know. Through culture, religion, science. But that is silly and not realistic. This game will be won through war. So, we need a military backed with science.

    * This military should be used to protect our continent. (Snoopy369 has hinted that this game has multiple continents.) Since we have chosen to befriend AC this military should be used to defend 1 - Team Banana and its interests; 2 - our allies (AC); 3 - this continent.

    * Science & Techs need to be pursued in order to strengthen our nation's military and culture.

    * We should befriend one nation as our primary ally (AC). We should grow that relationship in all areas through the end game.

    * Our relationships with other nations should be polite, but we should not be an open book to them. Ultimately they mean us harm and they should be delt with in like manner.

    * I believe this continent should be made safe for the growth of Team Banana and AC; and made free of any other nations.

    * This is meant to be fun.

    * All decisions from techs & builds to alliances & wars should be looked at from these points (or whichever ones are chosen).

Any opinions? "Where are we going?" & "how are we going to get there?" is all that I am asking.

Also, if AC does not respond favorably to our ABCS tech agreement we need to find out how much of a friend they are and possibly find a different primary ally.

I agree and like what you said. So put it in a mission statement, it would probably go something like this...

The first ramblings of Big Mouth Banana

In the pursuit of being the Great Bananas, we as a people have decided to define our values and our peels in a way that will allow our people to be prosperous and well protected. We opt to strive to have a well defended state, with a military that is capable of repelling the dangers the world presents to us. In order to do so, we must have a realistic evaluation of our allies, and maintain a list of worst case scenarios that we are well prepared for. To use two famous quotes, I would first like to cite FDR for saying “Speak softly and carry a big stick” as well as whoever said “Expect the unexpected.” These quotes should define how we progress scientifically, militarily, diplomatically, and domestically. Using the wisdom of the Banana’s that have come before us, we have rightfully chosen to seek open, honest, and well intentioned discussions with out neighbors, however, we should not be naïve to the possibility of deceit. We should now and always fourth look at a situation from the stand point of “what’s the best that could happen?” as well as “what’s the worst that could happen?” We are Banana’s of great wisdom and should always know to hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. We should now begin to discuss our future on three levels: 1. What is our approach if everything were to go perfectly our way. 2. What is our approach if everything were to go completely wrong. 3. Realistically, what will most likely happen. We should maintain these three approaches so that they are interchangeable, so far, I would say we should be using the approach of everything is going perfectly our way, however, we need to have the capability to switch to a plan would recover us from a potential attack, be it an unfriendly neighbor or barbaric terrorists. Our approach is one of preparedness, openness, and to some ends idealistic. We should be open about the fact that we would like to see a peaceful victory in this game, all the while maintaining the military preparedness to fight to the bitter end. One of our largest military weapons, should and has been our culture, we should maintain this value in order best protect our lands, it is nearly impossible to conquer a people who value the state in which they live. So we shall convene in our fora and over banana chips and cider have virtues discussions about how we are going to approach each aspect of the game on the three levels previously laid out.
It doesn't exactly map out how we get there but I think it does a pretty good job of how we should appoach the question of how we get there.

So far we seem to have a general agreement on our approach. I have posted some questions & ideas in the AC and GS diplo threads. Your replies are encouraged.
