I learned a few Dutch phrases last year while travelling, although sadly the only one I can recall at the moment is "Dank u vell", which I'm probably not even spelling right!

Very nice country, the Netherlands. More bicycles than I've ever seen! We stayed in Enschede (where a friend lives) and saw Amsterdam, Oldenzaal, Haarlem, Munster(Germany) and went to the Keukenhof before heading onto Antwerp.

Nearly right, it should be "Dank u wel". And if there is only one sentence to remember, I think it's nice to know how to thank people

      BTW, alva is from Antwerp...

Not that anyone would pretend to be Dutch on purpose

Should be great for taunting after the next Dutch-Belgian football match

          You sure about that?

Missed the part about you being from Antwerp, alva. Bleh, joke makes no sense now.

Perhaps I should mention that Belgium is cool, too. Antwerp has great night life and great restaurants. I preferred it to Brussels, which was also nice, but felt like Ottawa to me (slow, bureaucratic).

                Hey alva,

Fondly remembering the great evenings I enjoyed in Antwerpen, I just pulled the names of some places we enjoyed from my journal. I'm wondering if you know them?

Den Billenkletser - cool little pub for gamers!
Cleyn Seelant - seafood restaurant - fantastic!
De Peerdestal - restaurant - very nice
Ragueneau - restaurant - very nice
                De Wael 28 - restaurant - wow!
Sjalot en Schanul - lunch place - quite good
De Muze - jazz club - very nice, a little hard to have a conversation
Café Hopper - jazz club - great!

We tried to choose places off the beaten-track, you know, not catering to tourists.

To be honest, De Peerdestal is a pretty p*ss poor restaurant.
I used to be a chef at a restaurant just around the corner. Except for tourists, very few people ever spoke highly of it (the guy often came to us for help to, on various subjects). Still he must have broken every record in the book on the sheer amount of different meals on offer. ).

You do realise that it's speciamity is horse-meat, right? (One of very few restaurants - if not the only one - that still sell it)

De Muze is an absolute classic in Antwerp, though it's not what it used to be (they've become plain arrogant, each time I go there, I get annoyed by the employees. ).

                  I preferred it to Brussels

                  Ok, you're back in.

Huh - maybe I was too generous when I wrote my journal. It's hard to remember the details of each place over time.

Well, if you haven't been, try Café Hopper - I definitely recall enjoying it more.

I have traded a couple PMs with Ming. Although not definitive, he passed a sniff test.

                        So white from me.

Note: It appears there was no time out set for this poll. 48 hours should do. Assuming all is in order by early tomorrow I will let RoyAl in.

After reading a few more posts of him, I have a better feeling now. I want to express my welcome for the (likely) new member and the hope, that he will not just lurk, but actively participate.

                                Dank u wel!

Nice to be on the team now.
Appologies to DeepO: I was under the impression that you were from Germany. I should have paid more attention to my geographyclasses (or any, for that matter )
Speaking of football: I'm not into it. But isn't so that Belgium didn't qualify for the World Championship, and The Netherlands did?
As to participating in the game and posting on the fora: I was/am trying to be modest (to the Belgian people: it may sound like a contradiction, a dutchman being modest, but yes I am! . Oke, that's my last smartass remark on behalve of my "neighbours". Unless provoced, of course... ). I understand now that participating is preferred to lurking. No problem, just don't expect too much.
                                One question: What's a DL

Okay, I'll be off catching up on reading posts on this GS-forum. See you soon!
