Oops. I originally posted this in the main forum. I have already noted that I'm a moron today.

Anyway, RoyAl, a self-described newbie, seeks entrance. He apparently mostly wanted to watch the game, and was (correctly) told that he wasn't gonna see much w/o being on a team.

He will likely be mostly a lurker, at least to start. But who knows? Maybe he gets into it and becomes an active participant.

I have to confess, that my DL bells rung pretty loud, when I read it in the public forum. It's of course not personal. Since this suspicion it's not founded on facts, but rather a gut feeling, I don't blackball. However I would advise to be cautious with otherwise unknown people, who want to get in only to lurk and not to post, and hence not to risk to be discovered as DL.

Heh... he's Dutch. If you're worried about DLs, just checking whether one of the most likely suspects are Dutch speaking should be enough: it should be easy to ask him a couple of questions in Dutch, and check whether he's really from Holland.

Not that anyone would pretend to be Dutch on purpose

The DL thing crossed my mind, but I dismissed it. We can't exclude newbies because they could be DLs (as SR noted, there is no factual basis, just suspicion), and honestly I don't think that's gonna happen again. And I don't know how to avoid it anyway.

I'd prefer to simply ignore the possibility and welcome a new poster to our ranks.

I don't have anything against newbies. I have a bad feeling about newbies lurking in a DG, but not posting. We should make it a criterium to post, in any forum.

JM didn't "know our procedure" per se. He was saying, basically, that that's how all the teams do it. He was agreeing with my prior post about how it wasn't anything shocking (which in turn was a response to Fried's joking post).

I know you don't have anything against newbies. And I share your concern. But I don't think anything can be done about it.

I'm not too worried about the DL concerns. It's possible, but coming so close on the heels of C3CDG, I don't see it happening, and would rather presume innocence. Also, his reaction to Arrian's goof exhibited the right attitude and made him seem like someone we'll all be able to work with.

We need somebody asking "dumb" questions. Besides me, that is.

Yeah, it looks like this will be our third Dutch speaking member... and what both I as alva will appreciate is that it's a Hollander. Should be great for taunting after the next Dutch-Belgian football match
