How do you feel about starting a new Warlords Team DG?

There has been an effort to set up a new Warlords Democracy Team Game here but it has been surrounded by some controversy as some notable people have pointed out that it will slow down other DGs and therefore should be postponed until the other DGs are closer to completion. Some strong arguments have been provided by people on both sides (see the thread), so it's time to decide this in an appropriate fashion: a vote.

Basically two proposals are on the table (aside from postponing the game for now): a regular multi-team game without cooperative wins to allow for full dynamics in terms of diplomacy (which really requires at least 4 teams), or a 1-vs-1 fast-paced cutthroat fighting game with maybe some AIs thrown in for spice. The latter would require less people to run and certainly be a nice variety on the existing concept and an appropriate theme for a Warlords DG, but this proposal was made relatively late in the discussion when most people had already signed up for a regular-format game.

So please vote for whatever option most closely reflects your opinion and explain it if necessary. Feel free to promote this thread to other DG gamers to allow for as many people as possible to participate in the discussion/vote.

Note that this thread is for discussing whether or not this game should take place. To actually sign up for it, pick a team and discuss details of the format and game settings, go here.

This poll will be open for as long as we (the Apolyton administration) deem necessary depending on activity but likely 1-2 weeks.

Let them. C3CDG had a few teams that had almost no members (hell, one team was made up of 1 player, another by only 2, and I think of the remaining 4 teams 2 only had 5 or less members around) and that was a very active game. The thing about that game was that many of those players were not invovlved with the other DGs, it was that some people who were involved with old games decided to overload themselves. What is needed is a reminder to all the players of current DGs that they really can't handle more than one position of power without either burning out or screwing themsleves over in RL.

I learnt that from experince.

I've been though that burn out and can tell you that it's very real. Which is why I'm pacing myself and limiting myself to 2 DG games and a small number of PBEM's.

If CivAnnon was real, I would likely been a member....

yeah ok, but if you do not want to play, that is fine...

that others would like to play a Warlords dg is a good thing

that they would like to try cutt-throat, something I not remember seen played here at Poly before, I believe that to is a good thing

that some people that do not want to play have the ability to see that a civ related game does not get an opportunity to be played certainly is notable indeed

Paddy, that is a rather naive way to look at it; people have invested in this game, and they don't want to see fellow competitors in this game to burnout due to too many responsiblilities in demogames which isn't good for either game, nor for the person who burns out. Look at Fed, there are not many people in Banana, he has a position of great responsibility in Banana, yet he wants more. I'm not going to be the person to say what games he can play in or not, but all of us that have experience of what demogames can do to a person ill prepared for them do have an obligation to tell others what is likely to happen, and to help them benefit from our collective wisdom (or foolhardiness, take your pick)

I personally don't have a problem with a new demogame started up, so long as people from this game dont go rushing off to start it up and this game suffers; when will the third game start up and the fourth?

so do you all think this be the "the" demo game for civ 4 at the moment

that as you playing this one, that other people should not get to start a different style in a different version...

and yes a pbem would be fine, except where do the teams meet to sort things out

regardless of the numbers, that is still the diff between this proposed game and a pbem

struth if there were too many games why are there so many pbems?

you might think my comments naive, but I just trying to clearly cut through the mustard

your points on burnout are understood, yet we are talking gamers looking for a game to start, not truck drivers wanting to drop a few pills to do another 12 hours stint

My personal views (which isn't anti new DG, just to wait for it) is in this post.


BUT, I do know from experiance that people can get streched too thinly and allow themselves to get too drawn into these games. I'm not saying that I oppose a Warlords DG, I'm saying to wait for it to be fully patched, join this one if you do want to join one now and let them see what all is involved and to participate.

No matter when the WDG is started, it will have an effect on this one. Waiting, getting more people involved in this one, now, will help BOTH of then, when it does come about. Which, IMHO, would be after it's fully patched.

In the mean time, start an WarSPDG, if you want to play it now.

I for one, am already at my limit, at this point in time, so I won't be joining it anytime too soon. Later, I'll have to see...
