My point is not that Civ4 is a bad game. It is not, even though compatibility issues would disappoint me bigtime. My point is that it is silly to wait any longer for a patch, the likelihood of which to be ever released sinks with each day Warlords comes closer.

Oh and by the way, the Civ4 franchise may blossom, but the forums are most certainly not. Compared to the burstling place the Civ3 forums were 5 months after release, they're pretty much dead.

Take a look into the AU forum. That's supposed to be the place for the core enthusiasts. You'll be in for a surprise.

I seem to remember you and I having similar chats throughout Civ III

and yes the civ IV forums are nothing on the old civ III days...

      • Perhaps it's the controversity, that's creating interest? This controversity (fanbois vs whiners etc.) is clearly missing in Civ4, which undoubtly is good for the game, but seems to be bad for the community. I don't know where this comes from. Sometimes I think this is a "it's a good game, we all agree, now let's move on (to something else)" feeling...

        • Ralph, why do you think Firaxis wouls hold back a patch they've been working on for so long time? That's plain silly.

          • I am sorry for being silly, really. Take my sincere apologies. But I am born that way and can't do anything about it. What remains is to look up to people as smart as you.

            • ok, I a cynic... why patch us when they can sell us an expansion pack with the patch in it...?

              • Since we have so many smart people here, can anyone remind me the release date of the last and final patch for Conquests, which was supposed to fix it all and which Jesse Smith worked on for months?

I don't talk about 1.22, by the way...

                • mate as you know it never happened... they ran far, they ran fast... and they left the game far from finished... and yes they left many a broken promise behind them

adding to that, there are still people playing the game... and dare I say it, I understand there is still a candle kept burning that one day someone will stand tall and honour their commitments as if

                  • I always appreciated Jesses work and don't blame him a bit, not even for the non-release. He was hopelessly outnumbered by bugs and issues, and his mission was comparable to a situation like "The Hoover Dam broke! We sent our best engineer (alone) to fix it". He simply didn't have a chance. No... the crime was not his work. The crime was, that he was alone.

                    • you put forth a valid case... yet he was the representative of the company. At the end of the day it was the company that had removed resources for other projects, that had decided to cut their losses, they had the money from civ III and were ready for new markets...

the comapny could have homoured its agreement to get it operational...

struth, if the Hoover ruptured one hopes they would send more than one bloke even if he had a Red Cape like Jesse

                      • The Civ4 release was a great success and recovered Firaxis' reputation bigtime. Additionally, Civ4 does not have nearly as many issues as Civ3 had (well at least as far as I'm aware of). This is the point I don't understand - why return to the old "tell nothing to the community" policy, and that at the same time an XP is announced. I don't want to sound paranoid, but there's plenty room for a deja vu like this.

                          • Be optimist.
And buy the expansion after the patch release, never before.
                            Best regards,
