I'm not sure the GoMW or the Mercs are really going to be viable teams.

I repeat that I think it's best to wait a bit before starting the game. It's fine to the polls on the settings going now, though.

As for rules... well, mostly the rules are set up to avoid the messes that can result from exploits (in my experience, at least). I'm not sure that the game has been out long enough for us to know all of the potential MP exploits. Fried, I'm sure, did his best to make sure that there are none... but I'd be there is SOMETHING that may pop up.

That's part of the reason for waiting a little bit. The other reason is patching (which may address some exploits as well as bugs). The third reason is the holiday season.

Remember, Demogames take a long time to play. Years! So what is the harm in waiting another 2 months before we start?

nobody is going to take that bet... a couple of million of gamers are going to find exploits faster than anyone (including Fried, but others have specialised in MP too. Plus, we're talking about a SP game... MP is considered when you play at the same time, SP is when all players take turns like in PBEMs).

While I would like to get going as well, I think we first of all need to have rules and referees agreed on. And after all is done, rethink our rules and referees... this is the most critical element of making enjoyable play for years. The rest will follow quickly enough.
