My number would be 5. Small enough for a quick game flow and odd enough for a good diplomacy, i.e. avoiding deadlocked 2v2 or 3v3 alliances.

How Many Multiplayer teams?

Come on Sir Ralph, you know you want to join our view of a 6 team game ...
Though you do make some valid points - deadlocks and alliances....but isn't that the bread-and-butter of Demo games after all? It's the human interactions that really make the game fun - as long as everyone can have fun with it (it is a game after all) without taking a personal insult from its' interactions (a lesson well learned from Civ3).____________________________

Understand H Tower, and thanks for opening this up for discussion. Quite frankly, I would have fun if we had two teams or ten....but in my current mind-set, I am thinking that 6 teams can easily be handled with CivIV. Do I demand that there be 6 teams? God no! I am only voicing my opinion (rather vocally) in the hopes of getting other players involved.
After all, isn't this supposed to be a Demo game? Team and individual interaction is what sets it apart from your standard SP and MP games.
But to clear the water for one and all: I am NOT pushing for a set number of teams, I am just following the conversation and getting rather caught-up in it....what can I say? I'm only human after all.____________________________

Besides, the" 6 teams" in the poll currently has a healthy lead on the other options; so my own opinions are just that: my own opinions (along with a lot of hot air!).

I know the banana is a Poly tradition which we must follow. I mean, heavens forbid if you don't include one in your poll and your entire thread/poll is threadjacked with discussions about tropical fruit.
In a way, its similiar to the 500 post limit. In the middle of discussion some folks will interrupt with "We've reached 500 posts, stop posting until we open a new thread". I mean...thank god...we wouldn't want to go to 505 or 510 posts in a thread. That would be just so awful.
/me lets others worry about the 500 post limit
Anyway, i've just postjacked myself in this threadjack.... Back to the subject about bananas
. Why would someone vote banana in this thread? Based on the question, you have to have at least 2 teams, and there is an options for any other choice, complete with a nine OR MORE. So why vote banana? You don't want to play at all? Then why vote and post? Sometimes I think the banana thing is odd.
Okay, back to How Many Multiplayer Teams....Haven't been here for ages....

Only 2 teams have made themselves known. I have a feeling more will. Or depending on how many people sign up, maybe some of the members of the existing 2 teams will break off to form new ones?
Either way, I'm not on a team yet, and I don't plan to be untill I see all my options.Resident Filipina Lady Boy Expert.

Plenty of people around to form new teamsNo reason for the two initial teams to break apart, more reason for others to go out and form new teams, find members, encourage them to get involved etc. Yeah, do all the things forming a team requires
Then do those things that keeping a team together requires, picnics, good superanuation funds, health care, a good pub
