I haven't checked the map in a while, so I don't know what kind of terrain they'd be giving up in the proposed DMZ - that should be included. Maybe add one more (cheaper) tech on top of that, and it should be about even (and a rather reasonable offer).

And, since this proposal is about us saving face should they choose elimination, should we whip up a public announcement? It is probably pretty clear to the other continent what's happened on this side of the lake, anyway.

I've been wondering if we should just release the contracts thread already, actually. But we said at the first of the game we wouldn't untill we had contact with them all.

I'm not opposed to a public statement, but it WILL become a flame fest.

From the contract thread, the Sarantium Contract, they currently owe 594 after factoring everything together properly.

          Contract #0009
"War like any other racket, pays high dividends to the very few. The cost of operations is always transferred to the people who do not profit." -General Smedley Butler

Team Sarantium attacked and killed a neutral Mercenary Chariot.

          Results:

          - Team Sarantium offers explaination for their actions and makes suggestion to improve Mercenary Policies. Offered one time discount on reimbursement as credit for advice. Balance: 25 gold.

          - 2 Sarantium Workers have volunteered their lives in Service of Team Mercenary as reparations. Credit 240 Balance: 594

          - Hostilities paused to give Sarantium chance to make good payment.

          ______________

Sailing would be 147. I'ld say price the demil zone at 300. That leaves us another 147 short. Let them decide how to pay that is my reccomendation.

            Proposal from Sarantium:

Ok - I have not gotten approval from either my team or the Horde on this - but I am thinking that if we can reach a deal, my selling job may be easier.

To start with - I am asking if you could reduce the Horde's "bill" by 347, being the second offense "premium". Given the unique circumstances we all find ourselves in, I don't think it is an unreasonable request, and would represent a show of good will.

If the Horde's bill is reduced by 347, their new amount owing would be 677, which when combined with our 588, gives a total of 1265.

I am proposing that amount be paid as follows:

            From Sarantium:

Great Prophet 450 (this is my estimate of value based on the triggering of a golden age - with another GL - or more probably, used to research one of the higher techs).

            Monotheism 171

            Priesthood 85

Units totalling 170 (1 axe and 2 archers)

            From the Horde

            Sailing 143

Units totalling 250 (5 archers) (we may need to mix and match between the Horde and us)

            TOTAL 1269

We will research the two religious techs immediately after polytheism and will provide them as soon as we have researched them.

We will be researching polytheism first - but if you want to sell it to us at a discounted rate of archer - we would accept the deal.

We would also agree to a resettlement plan that would see Sarantium not building a city any closer than 4 tiles from a Merc city - in effect, meaning we would not settle on the old Anhinga site. It would have to be east of that.

I do not know the geography between you and the Horde that well, but hopefully a similar agreement can be reached.

Let me know if such a deal is first acceptable to Team Merc, and if yes, then wish me luck at my end.

            Beta
I responded said deal was impossible as gifting of Great People is against the rules of this game.

And I silently chuckle as that vote lost 4 teams to 3, and Sarantium voted against.......

Other than that, it looks fine to me personally. Perhaps have them pop theocrazy with the prophet and gift it to us?

Not at all, this is to ask whether we agree or not.

This is peace with BOTH Sarantium and Horde, though.

                  So what are the feelings?

                    Payment Plan #3
                    Sarantium Owes 588

                    Payment:
                    Monotheism 171
                    Priesthood 85
                    4 missionaries 320
                    Half of sailing 71

                    TOTAL 647

Horde Owes 677 (after reduction of second offense penalty)

                    Payment:
Compass 572 (I need to confirm with the Horde on this. It is getting frustrating. I have sent numerous emails and PM to Paddy with no response as of yet.)
                    Half of Sailing 72

                    TOTAL 644

Total Owed 1285 Total Paid 1291

                    Variations.

If 4 missionaries are too many, we can reduce to 3 and substitute units.

If the Horde cannot research compass in a reasonable time period - and that may be the case - units will be used to make up the difference.

And again - a Polytheism for archer trade would get things happening that much sooner.

They benefit from sending us missionaries. They get gold and they get eyes in our cities. There is no way sending missionaries to us should count as payment. I think if we want their religion we include that in the deal and say we will open borders and permit them to spread their religion in our cities. They will do it of their own accord I'm sure.

I think we should load up on techs as much as we can.

                          Maybe go this route:

                          Monotheism 171
                          Priesthood 85
                          Sailing 143
                          Code of Laws 500
                          Monarchy 429

And offer an archer or something to make up the difference.

You and I are in disagreement about the missionaries.

We get happies from the religion. And culture. And access to a ton of buildings. And access to civics. Instant spreading to however many cities they give us missionaries for. And we don't have to try for our own religion, or spread it, of which we would likely never get the holy building doodad anyway.

I personally mock the eyes on our cities, there's plenty of holes to hide units in, and anyone who simply stacks up units in a city for their defense deserves to be spied on IMO.

On the gold side, we WANT them to have the gold so they can pay us later. ESPECIALLY as they are so weakened.

Alright, I editted up the only deal I could think of that made the most sense, for the techs you asked for.

You were asking more for either of them individually, and quite a bit less from a combined perspective.

Hi UnO. I have tabled the plan below with the Horde, who I believe are also leaning towards a peace deal.

How are you doing at your end?

There are those here who would rather not see the missionaries. And, we'ld like to know an eta on Compass before we would sign off on that, as compass may be a target for us sooner rather than later. (but I'm guessing they might already have some turns invested there?) Just if they're 40 turns out or something, we might rather research that ourselves and have them target Monarchy or something.

Anyhow, one of the Merc members drew up this plan for Sarantium. I haven't been able to check the in-game values, so can't testify that all the numbers are accurate right now.

Mercs return both workers, Sarantium owes 828

Yep - CoL is 500 so that would work for us.

Now - the problem is compass. Paddy finally got back to me. 58 turns. How about we put them on currency. Same cost. Little less urgency. Not sure they have a 'builder' on their team.

But they are now looking forward to peace as well, so it would be good to get this done.
