  • Team Sarantium Diplomacy

I talked to con while playing Guild Wars tonight.

He will be our contact with Team Sarantium, I informed him we met.

He told me they have met someone else as well and wanted to know if we had, I told him I wasn't sure if we were allowed to talk about that, and we agreed to take it to PM's from there.

I'll get a nice official PM up tomorrow.

You are not permitted to discuss meeting other teams. Con was not, in fact, permitted to discuss the fact that he had met another team.

Well, at least I don't think so. I'm not entirely sure how you're supposed to eventually figure out that one team or another had met a team ... hrmph.

I was thinking about this yesterday. The game informed us that Vox had discovered Hinduism the minute we met Sarantium. If the game gives us information about teams we have yet to meet through contact with teams that have met them (I'm assuming here), then why shoudln't we talk about it? I mean wouldn't it be natural for civilizations who make contact to discuss the world they know and share?

IIRC in Civ3 you could actually trade contact with other civs.

ie: Civ A and Civ B make contact. Later Civ B meets Civ C. As of yet, Civ A and Civ C have not made contact with each other but Civ B can trade the knowledge of Civ C to Civ A.

I don't see any problem con telling us that they have met someone else. We won't be able to validate this information. For all we know, he might be blaffing (sp) us so that we will head for the direction of the other team and miss all the goodie hut we will get.

There is no exchange of contacts. We have not met the other team in game and have not contacted them. No rules are broken.

I need to know who wants to handle any exchanges with Sarantium while I'm away.

Again, con said they met SOMEONE, not WHO, and like said here, it could be false info for all we know. In all honesty, I was playing the 'it may be against the rules' thing more because I didn't want to say we HADN'T met anyone than because I thought it may be against rules.

In fact, I think it would make the game a pain if you forbid any such discussion between teams.

One thing, however. I can't seem to find a thread containing the rules of the game. Certainly not one topped...

This part of the rules was really fuzzy... nobody in this game wanted to live by MY rules, but nobody wanted to make rules as a group either regardless of how I pushed

Regardless, i'm going to try and work on a topped summary of my interpretation of the agreed on rules today/tomorrow.

                What does "handle" encompass?

EDIT: I guess if no one else is going to volunteer then I can be the backup.

Right, just answer con if he calls.

Post proposed PM's here first if you're uncomfortable just answering.

There SHOULDN'T be a whole lot to talk about right now anyway: We both need to scout before discussing borders and the only thing they could pay us in is units atm, so a contract isn't likely.

                      Sent to con:

                      Greetings Team Sarantium!

We are pleased to inform you that we have made contact with your warrior on our last turn. We look forward to a long and mutually *profitable* relationship.

As you know, con, I am heading out on vacation later today. In my absence, please contact polarnomad and/or Kloreep if you need any assistance or questions answered.

I return on the 19th, and will be your primary contact once I am back.

In the future we hope to be able to make a fair border agreement with you, but it is most likely too early to be thinking on this as both teams are likely in need of some scouting. However, it is never too early to begin thinking on such issues.

Greetings esteemed representative of the Mighty Mercenaries.

We are hoping that our co-existence on this continent will be honest and prosperous for both parties. I am contacting you to ask about the services your fine nation could provide for us. Could you clarify, in general, what types of contracts you can offer to us, i.e. "menu" of services of some kind?

How is the cost for specific unit set? Or what are the prices of some tasks i.e. stealing some other civ's worker? What would be the preferred payment methods? Is there a possibility to gain discounts?

Feel free to take your time to compile this information for us. We are a patient people and we like have as much information as possible in order to make wise decisions about the services you provide.

                          Signed,
                          Flamer(fin)

ps. Olkoon musta makkarasi erityisen maukasta!

I think the best way to go would be to respond that, as UnO says, the only thing we can exchange right now is units, making a contract difficult to negotiate; and that we can discuss other methods of payment once they are actually possible.

Two reasons for this approach: A) While I do not want to give an absolute "no" to contracts and perhaps drive off a future customer, I would very much like not to be striking any right now. I don't want to see our long-term interests suffer because we built a ton of units early and got into brawls with them. I'm somewhat grateful to CIV's mechanics in this respect for forcing us to act more like a normal team during the early game.
                            B) Anything we lay down now about contracts for tech or money is something we'll have to take back if we wish to change it by the time those contracts are actually possible. Better to not commit to any system when there's no reason to.
