We've been contemplating on how to make the tech trade fair and at least make others not view us as some kind of monopolizers.
Based on expierence from PBEMs comes an offer:
Each team has certain techs that the other team(s) doesnt have.
Of course, each team wants to get the best price for them and sell them to as many other teams as possible, to improve it's own tech situation.
So, let's establish 'tech copyright', which would work like:
If team A trades a tech to team B, team B has no right to sell this tech further to team C, which is in contact with team A, but has right to sell it to team D, which is not in contact with team A, notifying team A of this and giving a 'tribute' of size = traded tech beaker cost/teams in the pool* to team A.
The 'tribute' is expressed in beakers and is added to the balance of next tech trade between A and B, or if it reaches size of a certain tech, A wants, B gives this tech to A, and clears beakers equal to the tech's cost from the accumulated 'tribute'.
If both teams A and B trade a tech 'copyrighted' by other, the 'tribute' amounts are subtracted, so that if team A has to pay a 'tribute' of X and team B - Y, then if X > Y, team A has to pay a 'tribute' of X - Y, while team B - 0 (zero).
If any of the teams disregards the copyright of the researcher (of certain tech) team, the latter has all right to cancel any and all deals with the former.
* - pool = the count of unique teams known to team A plus team B (in this case - 3: A knows B and C, B knows A, C and D) minus one (team A - the researcher)
In real world this would look like:
We trade GS Alphabet(429) for Masonry(114) plus Maths(357), we owe them 429 - (357 + 114) = 429 - 471 = 42 beakers.
GS trades Alphabet to Mercs (if they meet but we dont), they must pay us tribute of 429/3 = 143, which means that they now owe us 101 beaker (143 - 42).
This works well until someone dishonors, or world gets too big for you to control the flow, but in the first place it provides an ability for everyone to trade his (own) techs with everyone thus getting the most value out of them.
