Would anyone have an objection to going ahead and moving the worker 3 (southeast) to see what he sees? If we get lucky and uncover something interesting 3-3-2 from the hill, that could end the debate about where to settle very quickly. At the very least, we'd know a little more than we do now.

Note that Dominae's sequence doesn't start building the first scout until after Hunting, Mysticism, and Polytheism are all discovered. That being the case, and since the worker also comes after that point, I can't see any possible reason not to make Mysticism and Polytheism (or Meditation, whichever we prefer) our first techs if we take that approach. Doing so would dramatically reduce the chance that someone else could beat us to our chosen religion.

Yes, there were a few questions that popped up as I was writing the log, this being one of them. I just wanted to get something down on paper so that we could discuss something concrete.

That being said, I believe we tentatively agreed that researching Hunting before Mysticism was the right move, because we could bail out of the religious branch to save some Beakers if someone beat us to it.

I'm still not entirely convinced of that logic however: more than one team may want a Religion, so slowing our own progress cannot be to our advantage. Especially, as you point out, given the fact that in the Flood Plains scenario it takes us a while before getting around to building a Scout.

If we really want to justify Hunting first and get a Scout out ASAP, we could switch the Warrior build to a Scout when Hunting is done. Our first unit would come out later, but with two moves it would eventually catch up.

My only objection to that is that he would have to backtrack seeing as we're at the bottom of the map, setting us back in our exploration.

Not a big deal, really, so I'm all for it.

Well, given the city site debate, it might be a good idea to see if there is something nearby (two of the circles are near there).

It means we miss the hut for now, but the city site seems to be the larger issue.

A decision has to be made. It looks like it will fall to me to make it.

              The warrior moved 3.

I'm going to settle in the fp. This is why.

A mined plains hill (not the sheep) worked 1 turn out of 4, and the other 3 turns on fp is 9f/4h/4c every 4 turns.

A single fp worked over health is 8f/0h/4c over 4 turns. The single hpt of the plains hill is negated by extra food as soon as we build a single mine. And then there is the extra food for other tiles from the extra health.

                Faster growth. Pop is power.

                That is what I conclude.

Now. The deer hill is a 3/1/1 tile with a camp.

Is that enough to pull us to hill 3 over hill 2 with it's larger number of plains hills on river?

NYE, have you settled yet? If not, I'd appreciate it if you'd give me a couple minutes to look things over.

                      OK.

I saw you on and waited.

I'd love it if Blake chimed in, but we are running over time.

I'd say we very definitely want to settle where we can work both the sheep and the deer. The deer with a camp gives us an extra good tile to work for growth (plus a tiny bit of production), which in turn would give us the option of letting an overlapping city borrow or steal an extra flood plains from the capital. A camp on the deer would also greatly reduce the risk of the flood plains causing health problems in a secondary city that's also using flood plains, especially if we go with Blake's strategy of initially mining the sheep.

Also, wiith a flood plains start, we ought to make Mysticism our first tech and beeline for a religion. If people want to overrule my recommendation, there will be plenty of time to switch to Hunting before we could actually use it for anything.

                          Alright.

And we can always do Myst-Hunting-Meditation and thus avoid decay.

Settled on fp 3 of the hill

Set emphasis on food and commerce

                            Set production to warrior

                            Set research to Mysticism

The deer gives the FP city more of what it doesn't need - food and health. If it was marble or something I'd put more weight on working it early. As it is it's only a +4 tile when improved.

edit: Oh well. What's done is done. I do think the hill would have been better but the FP is by no means bad. I don't think we should connect that deer up for quite a while though because it's a plain crappy tile. Even though we'll have the tech for it, we can make better use of mines and cottages.

Thanks for playing the turn for us.

Note from the F9 data that at least one civ is matching our commerce. That could spell trouble if we and they end up beelining for the same religion, since whoever it is has a head start on us.
