  • The Game

Can an admin please top this thread. Many thanks.

OK - February is a good time to see if we can kick this off.

To start with - it has been agreed that the game will be a pitboss game. Information regarding pitboss will be posted below for those who are unfamiliar with the format.

The pitboss game needs a host, and Aro has volunteered to run the game on one of his computers. Thanks Aro!!

The teams: there is another thread here where teams can form and/or declare their intention to play. A post below summarizes the teams. We can accomodate numerous teams - so sign up. May I suggest a minimum number of 3 players per team to cover off absences.

The one thing to keep in mind is that a large team - as used in many pbem demo games - may not work. Pitboss games move at a much quicker pace, and with a smaller team, it will be easier to coordinate input and discuss strategy before someone plays the turn for your team. Just my opinion, and large teams are more than welcome.

The game: a stock civ4 warlords game, starting with the ancient period, and all default conditions and standard victory conditions.

The turn timer: 24 hours. There will be more than one person per team, so this should not be an issue, and should make for a fast-paced and interesting game.

    The civs: see discussion below.

Admins: volunteers would be great. Although the host of the game ususally has the most to do. And btw - Aro can also form a team or be on a team and host the game at the same time.

Start date: as soon as we can get the teams together, and civs agreed to.

Other stuff ... and I'm sure there is other stuff ... just post. I have left some spare posts.

      The Civs

There are a number of ways we can do this:

      1. First come-first served. Will encourage sign-up.

      2. Random draw for 1st through X choice of civs.

      3. Random assignment of civs by the game.

      4. Random assignment of a pre-determined subset of civs. This would be along the lines of an 'Europe in Flames' or 'Asian Tigers' game, where say, 8 European civs are assigned at random to the teams.

      5. Other ideas?

          What is pitboss???

A guide prepared by snoopy369 explains it best. There is an excellent intro, and then details on how to both play and host a game. Any questions can be posted here for answers and/or discussion.

          Here's snoopy guide (word doc):

              The Map

Almost forgot one of the most important items. The map.

The map size will depend on the number of teams.

The type of map should be determined prior to determining how civs are chosen - as one can affect the other.

Most demo games go with continents, but warlords gives us many more options. My personal preference would be a pangaea map with high water level. But the players should be deciding this.

                Good

                Thanks for the setup, Beta.
I'll say what I think of the details later.

I am proposing we call the game the:

                  Apolyton Saga

And I think my prefernces are for a random assignment of civs, and a 'shuffle' for a map. Or fractal.

I have paced ads in the current Civ4 demo forum, the civ4 pbem/succession MP forum, and the civ4 MP forum. I suspect that should cover sufficient folks.

Thanks PR! To be honest - not sure what an admin will do in this game - other than slap people up the side of the head when required. Nonetheless, your offer is graciously accepted.

As long as the mapsize doesn't exceed "standard" size, I'm interested in joining a team.

I can see the help beeing in double checking contacts, to see who can talk to who, verifying noone is rushing to unknown resources etc

care to send the game file when done up, so I can review before hand?
