  • sunrise has had the game down for most of the past 24 hours, as he sorts out his hosting situation. And you know what? Not a single person from any of the other teams has posted asking when the game will be back up, or even acknowledging that the game is down. We (Team RB) are the only ones talking about it at all, probably the only ones even aware of the downtime...

Seriously folks, this game is dead. I wish it wasn't, but it is. Sooner or later, we may as well stop trying to shock the patient back to life and acknowledge that we're dealing with a corpse.

    • Yep, looks that way.

What's the status of your "History of the World"?

*Where is our new settler going?

              • OK, if we're going to continue with this game, then let's take it seriously. Maybe not quite as intensely as when things were hanging in the balance, but no excuse to start getting sloppy either. Let's run away with the game and show the remaining teams just how awesome Realms Beyond truly can be!

Start with some pictures. An overview of the East:

sunrise, in response to your earlier question, I see no reason to throw soldiers away for no reason. Let's wait the one extra turn to move up our siege units, bomb out the defenses at Mayapan, and then attack at better odds. Imperio's not exactly going anywhere!

Inside Lakamha, since I haven't seen a picture posted yet:

And take a look at this. We already have enough espionage points to view inside some of the PAL cities. (We can possibly accumulate enough EP to steal Steel before they bite the dust.) That allows us to view this:

One Banana Cho-Ko-Nu, moving one tile per turn, has slowly made its way up to Elephantine. And since there's only one warrior inside, and PAL isn't plaything their turns, Donovan will likely raze the city next turn. Seriously, what kind of a game is this?! Just sad, very sad. That's why I'd like to see things end now, before things get stupid and silly... but apparently it goes on. Thus we may as well play our best too.

                Domestic Stuff

                - Our economy is already recovering nicely, and we haven't even finished the war yet. Up to 20% science now at break-even. I think we can reach 50-60% (if not higher) by T200, and then the game will just be a sad joke. Love the cottages going up right now, especially at Pink Dot. Let our cities grow grow grow and keep picking up cottages!

                - Incidentally, Oxford finishes in 2t and we get a Great Person (89% Scientist) in 2t. Then we turn on research, grab Optics, trade for Astronomy, and lightbulb Printing Press - woot!

                - Destination for Something Fishy's Islamic missionary next turn? I like Jericho first (to produce more missionaries), Jersualem second, Jungle Fever third (for whipping purposes). Oh, and next build in Something Fishy? I'd like to go with a Bank, playing for the long-term economic benefit, since we don't need soldiers at present and Upper Burgundy/Jericho will be on the "spam missionaries" duty.

                - Not sure that we're ever going to work cottages at Upper Burgundy (this is a pure production city, for military and missionaries) so that worker can probably go help out elsewhere. Jericho needs irrigation brought to it, for example.

                - We can draft Frozen Clams at no penalty (the anger has worn off), so we may as well do so. City has plenty of happiness, and very few more decent tiles to work as it grows!

                - Yeah, Serious Steve definitely needs to head over to Jericho and continuing bringing irrigation north. We're about ready to swap the oasis tile over to Constantinople, and without farms Jericho won't have enough food.

                - I'd like us to give the western sugar resource at Jerusalem back to Sweet Tooth next turn; Sweet Tooth needs the food more, and Jerusalem has three different food bonuses (two sugar + grassland cows). Overall though, Jerusalem is developing really nicely as a production/commerce hybrid with tons of potential. This is going to be one of our best cities in time, and probably a huge naval base. Can't believe Templars didn't make better use of the place - after cutting down the jungle and putting plantations on the sugar resources, it's quite a good spot! (Of course, they never researched Calendar, heh...)

                - I swapped us over to one of the new cottages at Chichen Itza. No brainer to work a new 2/0/1 grassland cottage over a 1/0/3 coastal tile! Question: do we add another cottage next, or concentrate on bringing irrigation to the wheat tile? I would probably build the grassland cottage 1W of the current worker position, then have that worker pair (Jack/Paul) add the indicated farms.

                - Acre: don't we want to work the grassland cottage over the grassland workshop? (Grassland workshop, yuck!) I'm making this swap, but we can change it back if we wanted the workshop for some kind of whipping math.

                Workers

                - I mentioned that I think Steve should move to bring farms north to Jericho.

                - One of the workers at Jungle Fever should go into the forest tile 1N of the city, to chop it and prepare for a future cottage. The rest can go to the west and cottage the tile 1W of the rice.

                - Robert/Tyler should start farming the rice for New Mutal, getting it ready for our next city.

                - Bernard/Yojojo should add a grassland cottage at Airstrip One, 1S of the wines. We will want to work this tile when we finish Oxford and swap back to a growth configuration.

                - John the Savage, Hugs, and Winston all build grassland cottages on their separate tiles.

                - One of the O'Brien/Aidun/Andy trio probably goes NE onto the hill tile, to road it for future improvement. The others can go 1S to cottage that grassland river tile.

                - Mustapha may as well build cottages at Acre. Not much else for the city to do! (And it will have plenty of food, once we grab the fish resource.)

Guess that's all for now! At least the game is moving forward...

                • Ok, can we please, please convert Imperio and PAL to AI?
Or split the PAL land and give it to Banana & Rabbits and play on as a three civ game.

I would like to show the world what RB can do and all that, but the last turns have just been plain silly.

We can see three PAL cities, all of them with Islam in it. So I guess the shared religion brings down the espionage costs.
Donovan has line of sight into PAL cities since ages and knows about their defensive units. He probably has landed single units next to Elephantine and maybe Thebes as well. Knowing that PAL has resigned he is looking for a cheap kill. In the current silly game setup, he might actually try to keep those cities. Who is there to re-capture them???

                  Regarding Jerusalem:
Why Templars have not done more with their city is a mystery and we should exploit that to the fullest. I expect your end game report to be full of taunts.

                  • Is there anyone from the RB team willing to take over PAL (and maybe even Imperio for the last couple of turns remaining?

Asking Naldo and Indiansmoke for the password will allow for at least a token resistance at Mayapan and Elephantine.

My summer class is wrapping up tomorrow, and since I already have the final exam prepared, I've finally got some free time now, woot! I've been working on the introduction this afternoon, and will have the start of the Demogame writeup posted tonight or tomorrow (in our private forum, not publically until the game officially ends). While I'm being polite in tone, it's not stopping me from getting pretty snarky when criticizing is merited. Fact is, the Templars were off smokin' crack all throughout this game, and to do a fair recap I have to point that out!

                      • Keep in mind that if they have decided to role play a lot, some of their decisions might have been justified (well, to some extent). So if they were to overthrow their roleplaying shackles they would have probably played a better game.

Uh... it depends, partially on if anyone else would be interested, and more primarily on what the goal is; would the team be very interested playing to the end against such a PAL, or primarily just playing now because the rabbits team wants to play on?

                            • Ok, I think we should put the game out of its misery.
Banana's single ChoKu has indeed captured Elephantine and kept it!!!!

And I just realized, we have missed our 24hours window. )))
I actually missed it by 5 minutes. Purely by chance.

It does not really matter, as Imperio is not playing anyway.
So if anyone wants to kill IMperio, our army is ready, I think.

I for myself, consider that game won and will resign from active duty.

I will instead enjoy Sullla's history book.
