Could you hijack it anyway. (I am curious what the correct explanation is.)

Sounds like a great drive. I miss living in Basel (on the Zurich-Luxemboug road incidentally) and visiting the surrounding area, which I did for 3 months last year. That part of Europe is just brilliant.

I was in Oxford for a summer (1995) and lost 20 lbs. I basically lived off this Turk selling doner kebabs down the street. I'm not a huge Jacques Chirac fan, but he was dead on about British food . The pubs can't be beat though, man I really miss 'em.

ObOnTheOffTopic: I tried Cricket twice while I was there and really sucked at it. I'm decent at baseball, but the skills don't translate well (at least in my case).

Mayonnaise on chips is really good, though it has to be in the right situation. I reckon if you're having fish&chips from a chippy then you just want to drown it in vinegar and a good amount of salt. But if you've got a burger and chips in a pub then then go crazy with the mayonnaise!

Ah, now I wonder what lures you to Amsterdam . Btw that drive to Amsterdam brings you to Eindhoven, where I work.

Omg, how off-topic can a thread be From cricket to fluid dynamics to mayonaise to the Belgian grand prix. I'm so glad I joined this team!

Have you got your days all mapped out? If not, look into taking a day trip to Jungfrau - the highest mountain in Europe. It was a great experience - especially the rack rail. They said not to run around when you get out (high altitude and all) - of course I didn't listen and was soon puffing from just walking around!

The trip is pretty much planned out, and pretty jammed full of activities (the two people in the party who have traveled to Europe as adults are both organization freaks and power-travelers).

                  *Delta Flight Arrives ZRH

So one night in Zurich, two in Luxembourg, one in Amsterdam, and one back in Zurich. Certainly not the ideal one-week Eurotrip, but I really want to see this race...as one of America's several dozen F1 fans I've got to keep the dream alive

Ok, then make sure that you eat at the Armory in Zurich and have a potato rosti.

I would go to Dinant then: there's the Leffe (better beer than Hoegaarden) brewery (in an abbey). Be careful though: that beer is a lot more potent than your american 'beer'.

This is a good option for a rainy day. The local speciality is the all-but-unpronounceable 'Zuerigeschnetzeltes' (veal in creamy mushroom sauce), and house speciality is 'Sausage on a Sword' (no, really). It gets really smokey in there, so go early to avoid having your meal spoiled by everyone puffing away.

If it's a sunny day then head to the lake. Plenty of options for eating and drinking.

@sunrise: if you want a comedy photo relating to your handle: your hotel is two minutes walk from the Sunrise Towers
