I think that not enough has been made of the civ choice of Portugal and the Carrack for this scenario. Every aspect was perfect ... Matching the civ choice to the scenario is an underappreciated aspect of our games, but I feel has a big impact on how satisfying the gameplay is.

Bah! If you guys want arguments at Realms Beyond, you should look in the old N54 forums regarding the controversy surrounding the Civ3 Epics. Sirian is a lot more of a hardass than I am, and there were some heated exchanges between Sirian and T-Hawk (mostly about scroll-ahead production swaps), and even more so between Sirian and Arathorn. And no, I am not going to try and dig up those ancient posts right now.

I'm working my way through these threads, trying to get current with the game....

Compromise disappeared after T-Hawk laid into him for Adventure 30 . You could argue that was a coincedence . Qwack dropped out of the RBtS7 succession game about midway through...I got the impression he was pretty much burnt out.

It was coincidence.

I missed T-Hawk's comments at the time, but reading them now I think he was right. I'm not sure how many more Civ4 (or eventually Civ5?) events there will be, but his criticism would be good reading for would-be scenario designers.

If I ever sponsor another event, there will be no red herrings.
