If we can't produce a settler there (my preference) due to time constraints, then running scientists seems good.

The last plan I saw had GL completing 5t after Aesthetics was researched, with zero whip & 5chops.

Will 1worker be enough to pre-chop the remaining 3 forests needed for that plan?

Would Settler for 8-9t, GL for 5, then complete Settler be an option anyone else would consider? Then it would come out in ~17t.

We're going to need a chunk more military in the near future to secure both our front and back lines, and having Pink able to work on that while other cities churn Settlers for a while would make me more comfortable.

5 turns after Aesthetics? We need at least that long to research Literature.

          Imperio oracled Feudalism.
Which I guess is already the next era tech (medieval???) as it seem to give 18points insetad of 12 like classical techs.

Can we assume I meant Literature and save me any further embarassment!

I like the current situation of building a worker and working all four cottages at airstrip one. I think investing in our cottages' maturity is worth more than investing in GP points.

I logged into the game and put a sign over my proposed filler wine city.

Also I put in a trade offer with PAL of Monotheism for Code of Laws.

On the subject of growth at Airstrip One, I'd like to point out that we can raise the happy cap by adopting Islam.

Also, the Great Library would be significantly accelerated if we got into Organized Religion.

Discussion? Is it worth both rounds of anarchy?

                    • Another option for a build at A1 is 'science'. This has 2 advantages, it generates research to our tech and it allows us to chop forests into the buffer. Those hammers will happily sit in the buffer until we build something - that is a way of pre-chopping without having to leave the forest with 1 turn to go. Just don't build anything between 'science' and the GLib.

I'm only suggesting 'science' during the final turns before we land Lit.

                      • Well I was going to log in and effect changes, but it seems we haven't settled on a clear plan yet. So the competing options are:

                        - Build worker and work cottages
                        - Run scientists and build archer
                        - Spend a turn in anarchy to swap to Islam for happy boost

Based on these choices, which way do we want to go?

                        • We are planning to settle several cities with poor production potential, so I'd train workers there, and use capital for military. This means I favor option 2.

The problem with religion swap is that we have religion in only two out of our 5, soon to be 7, cities. And capital is most likely to be training military, so it will not get much benefit from Org Rel. There is still a chance of another religion spreading to more than 2 of our cities on its own.

I'd rather get happiness by selling Aestetics for Monarchy to Imperio when we are 1 turn away from Literature.

                          • I am very interested in Ruffs idea to build beakers and fill up the reserves with forest chops now get the Great Lib even earlier.
Can we verify that this is how it works and that those buffer hammers are actually counted double once they are spent on the Oracle?

                            • Running science at the capital isn't a good idea IMO. To make it worthwhile we'd have to work mines instead of cottages. Depending on how many mines we work, it gets us less beakers than running the cottages or we break even. We don't get more (our mines get 3 hammers and our cottages get 3 commerce except one which gets 2, but the mines require more food to sustain and the cottages don't mature). If we don't work mines we get a measely 3 beakers per turn from running research. Either way I don't think it's worth it when we could be training a worker or archer at the same time. Chopping while building research doesn't really make much difference except for us loosing some flexibility - ie we have to put them into the great library.

Worker+3 hamlets+1 cottage vs archer+2 scientists+cows+2 hamlets gets 13 vs 14 beakers, but that's really a wash because we would be maturing our cottage into a village. So not much difference on the research front. The real question is: What's better, maturing cottages and hamlets and building worker vs great scientist points and building archer. They both seem pretty similar to be so I don't really mind. I'm slightly on the side of working the cottages and hamlets though. We need more workers.

My idea was to actually work 3 hamlets + 2 scientists and have -2 food deficit until we research Literature. That should give, what 16 beakers?
