PS Talking about Great Library, have we decided on location for Library #3 for it? (IIRC, It requires 3 libraries and we have only 2 now.)

I am pretty sure that GL only requires library in city where you want to build it.Quote: "All Happiness is the release of internal pressure"

I don't think we need marble THAT soon... and wouldn't we look silly if we whipped Pink, only to have someone else finish Oracle the turn we connected marble? Only 5 more turns to another settler naturally anyway.
Game back up, I have selected Aethetics as our tech. We're crossing our fingers and going for the Great Library in earnest now. Interesting side note: the turn timer didn't reset to the start of the turn. There are less than 18 hours left, and most teams haven't played their turns. Might end up hurting some of the less diligent teams. We'll see.

Good discussion here.
First of all, please someone check my numbers. ;-)
I don't like delaying our dash to Great Lib for a few gold from an aborted Oracle.
Remember that we already saw a worker chopping forests near Lakamha. That is probably going towards The Oracle.
We know what Imperio and PAL are researching, we know Tenplars don't have enough beakers and C&D can spot any classical tech (like Aesthetics) researched by either Rabbits or Banana (none so far).

It will take us 9 turns to connect Marble and 8 turns to discover Aestetics. If nobody has Aestetics by the time we are done with it, we'll know that are at least a turn ahead. Also, we'll see when Imperio gets Math and will be able to use that, combined with their GNP, to find lower bound on when they are likely to learn Aestetics + Literature. Similarly, if we see PAL gain any new tech.
So if either PAL or Imperio hasn't researched any new techs by the time we are done with Aestetics, we might have to re-evaluate our Oracle plans. Otherwise, we'll know a lower bound on when competition can start on GL.

Didn't C&D say that PAL got Christianity a few turns ago?
I just realized that after seeing that they already have a religion and Monarchy is available for Alphabet, PAL might have decided to skip CoL and make a play for Great Library. This would also explain their delayed replies to us, because if we had started Monarchy research, that would give them a bigger head start on Aestetics.
This is just a theory, but I am not going to be surprised if we see PAL with Aestetics in a few turns. Can C&D give an estimate on when PAL should get CoL and when it should get Aestetics if it started researching one of these two techs after Alphabet?

I'd be surprised if PAL skipped CoL for Aesthetics. Prince level maint isn't that bad, but to give up a religion (and free missionary) wouldn't seem to be a strong play, especially as CoL was their suggestion (which leads me to think they lack a ready source of marble for GLib anyway).
If we can get our workers optimally aligned in their chopping, I think we can even afford to trade around Aesthetics. The other teams won't have prepared as well as we have (as they weren't researching Aesthetics), so we'll beat them to the Great Library even if they do change course and switch research to Literature after we trade them Aesthetics.

I would be much happier hanging onto Aesthetics for a few turns just to make sure. I don't think that PAL has the hammers to compete (how big is their biggest city?) given that they are whip-tastic.Quote: "All Happiness is the release of internal pressure"

C&D thinks that Christiantity has spread to at least one major city.
PALs capital would make sense.
It has a trade route with Jerusalem presumably (or the other way around) and is currently at size 6.
I doubt they will have given up CoL because of that.
I want to echo the desire for us to at least get started on Literature a couple of turns before we release Aestehics to the world.
