Realms Team,

A couple of things I'd like to address:

1. Our team was approached by Imperio to engage in a resource trade, which we had to accept. We are obviously trying our best to stay competitive on our side of the globe and unfortunately, your rival has the most beneficial surplus goods for our current needs. I'd like to hope that this move does nothing to damage the strong relations we have fostered, but as a sign of continued goodwill I intend to grant you our next surplus source of Incense (free of charge for at least 30 turns) once we have it connected.

2. We are taking a short break to restructure our government, so I'll give you an ETA on Guilds once the dust settles.

3. Any further thought on trading maps? Let me know, as I will be weighing my trade options with PAL shortly.

Gotta be something for incense, and gold seems most likely. Good trade for Banana.

If Banana trades maps with Templars and then Imperio, will they get as much info as trading with us? I know we have the best map, but that doesn't do us any good if everyone else can trade and compile one just as good. I'd be tempted to offer a trade, especially for any sort of compensation.

I am not sure about map trades. It might be good for us if they trade with Templars and then with us, giving us full and up-to-date map of Templar lands. On the other hand, any trade with us would have to come with a condition not to resell the maps to anybody. Even PAL could turn around and sell our latest map to Templars and Imperio, who might not have complete map of our eastern shores.

Imperio and Templars have signed a full alliance (check out Imperio's diplomatic screen), with Templars giving Imperio all their cash and getting all Imperio's tech. They are currently positioning large numbers of troops along our borders, pillaging roads in neutral territory. We are going to loose trade connection with you and PAL when they declare war, so could we borrow some cash to upgrade Spears to Pike before we lose Iron? The most helpful would be if you run 100% cash for a turn or two, but just borrowing what you have now would let us have an extra pike to stop raids. (We are unlikely to be wiped off the map, but getting pillaged to stone age would cripple our research capacity, making future tech trades take much longer.)

Our main worry about map trade is that if you then resell it to PAL, PAL could sell it to Imperio/Templars, giving them full view of our lands.

We are sorry for not getting back to you sooner. We have been pre-occupied with Templars declaring on us and Imperio likely to do the same, so our "Banana" thread kept getting pushed down with the flood of battle tactic threads.

I'll update you with the war situation: Templars declared on us in the south and sent a rather laughable stack at us (they have a low power rating, so it is probably the best they can muster). It is currently camped out on a hill, unsure what to do. If they move the stack off the hill towards our city it is toast. Imperio have not yet declared but their main stack is in sight in one of their border cities. We are well placed to deal with it. So we feel we are doing fine on both fronts and you don't have to worry about us. Imperio did close borders and we were surprised that our trade routes and resource deals with you and PAL are still intact, so that is very good news for both of us.

We thought you might be concerned with a delay for your nationalism tech due to the war, but that disruption should be small. We have spent some money to upgrade troops, but nationalism research should commence shortly. We have been saving money and and set off a golden age. As soon as our next GS comes in we will lightbulb philosophy and go 100% on nationalism.

We understand your need to trade resources with Imperio and are OK with that currently. A source of your incense would be nice in the future.

Can we ask what PAL are researching now?

Regarding the map situation: I'm afraid we have decided not to trade maps with anyone. It is nothing personal against you.

We are the team with the best map info in the game due to lots of scouting efforts on our behalf. Even our next door enemies do not have a full picture of our lands and our city placement. Please understand that we are not willing to provide that info to them via 3rd or 4th party map trades. It is nothing personal against you and we will certainly reconsider once the current crisis is resolved.

If they are smart Banana suggests a non-disclosure agreement wrt our maps or even that they trade with other teams first.

Banana have previously said that they would not give away our map info. That is why I didn't explain much in that section. I think it's better being obtuse here because if we say we don't want our map being traded away by them to others they we are basically saying we don't trust them. I do trust Dononvan, but there could be unexpected events like him leaving and someone else taking over the bananas. I think it's best to say nothing more than what I said in my draft.
