Though I agree in principle with the "you snooze you lose" route; why risk any sort of tarnish on our reputation as honest and forthright. Banana are our key ally, why risk them even being slightly upset with us?

OK, I've changed my mind on the Iron deal. I think we should send them an email asking if we can have iron until we can build 2 pikemen and then say we'll cancel the deal. Not offering any money and say it will be 5 turns. We've done enough for them so hopefully they'll give us this favour back.
Modifying Zeviz's message:
Hi Team Banana,
Our Iron deal has expired, but we'd like to train two pikemen after researching Engineering, if you don't urgently need the iron back. So can we keep the deal in place for 5 more turns?
Thank you,
Team RB

This is what we sent Banana about Iron:
We probably won't need Iron again until Engineering is in the bag. Last time around, you weren't so interested in getting happy resources in return. How might things look in half a dozen turns? We'll have Dyes and Silks to trade at this point.
Maybe Banana will be reminded to cancel Iron when he sees Engineering on the tech screen. So I suggest the following offer:
Hi Team Banana,
We've just noticed that you haven't cancelled the Iron trade, but we'd like to train two pikemen after researching Engineering (due in 2 turns), if you don't urgently need the iron back. So can we keep the deal in place for 5 more turns, and we'll ship you Engineering as soon as it's completed, rather than waiting for you to complete Feudalism.
We look forward to your reply.
Cheers,
Team RB
We offer him a minor gain, so I think he'll go for it, given the good relations we enjoy.

I wasn't around to send this yesterday evening, so an amended version has been sent (after I checked the Iron was still ours):
Hi Team Banana,
We've just noticed that you haven't cancelled the Iron trade, but we'd like to train two pikemen after researching Engineering (due in 1 turn), if you don't urgently need the iron back. So can we keep the deal in place for 4-5 more turns, and we'll ship you Engineering as soon as it's completed, rather than waiting for you to complete Feudalism.
We look forward to your reply.
Cheers,
Team RB

woo hoo! My wife publishes her first book. Buy it now in paperback format at lulu and help me retire so I can write more BUG mod code.

I like it too. And we effectively keep the redundancy resistance to spy sabotage - if one copper gets pillaged and the other is in export, we've still got the iron import. Only thing that would affect is the Colossus, and that's chop-driven so we can just time it accordingly.
