  • Can somebody do the calculation on working 3 mines vs. working 2 mines and a river cottage while training a settler?

If somebody can set up a simulation where they work 0, 1, or 2 cottages while training the 2nd worker and settler, we'll know what the best course of action is.

That simulation is impossible, since it is all about turn advantage ($1 to Vel). Getting the Settler out earlier gets the second city started early, and frees the city building the Settler to grow. That speeds up everything else. You're basically asking to simulation the entire game . This is also why I like Sulla's idea of another Worker next.

      • Hi,

as I've already said in the beginning of the game, I strongly support the idea of more inter-team communication. We have to make sure we're not appearing as spammers, but otherwise communication is a Good Thing.

Generally my playstyle would be similar to Zeviz', with a strong focus on early cottages, maybe an early Great Scientist etc. But given the bad level of play of our direct neighbour...maybe focusing on production and making a good landgrab will work better in this situation.

I'm really torn on this one...But since Zeviz and I would be in the minority anyway, I'm also fine with Archery next.

        • Turn finished, archery selected as next tech.

For Sharon in the north, should she divert into the forest to reveal the two tiles?

Also we still need to decide on a promotion for her. I'm leaning towards combat 1, in an effort to get her to medic.

As a lions-can-move-2-squares-type of question, I wonder if scouts can get to medic at all? I just realize I've mostly promoted them to woodsman, guerilla or the like before they die...

Yes, as can exploreres. However, you can't get the Medic III/Woodsman III combo with Scouts since Woodsman III is not available to Recon units.

              • Medic III scouts are awesome, just because they're never hit by enemies and they're 2-movers. I'd probably rather have a medic III scout than a medic III woodsman III warrior. That said, without a great general a medic I scout is a bit more difficult, since you have to provoke fights that will always be pretty risky. Early on I normally go woodsman I with my scouts in hope of woodsman II, but seeing as how we have a lot explored I think combat I is fine.

                • In that case the scout should actively seek combat with animals, before warriors appear.

                  • I think we should take the step into forest just in case there is an important resource in one of the two unexplored tiles.

It might be easier to get medic units from barracks, so I'd prefer Woodsman line for exploring scouts, but trying for Medic is fine too.

                    • Well, it was a moot point because we never actually moved the scout again last turn. More seriously, I don't think we ever moved the worker either (!) Nothing crucial, we'll just try and make sure it doesn't happen again.

If there are only 10 hours left on the clock, probably better to just go ahead and play though.

                      • Nono, we did move the scout and the worker had just finished the mine so had no movement left. Playing turns now.

EDIT: Also, there are 30 hours left

                        • Well the discussion was slightly moot because there was a lion occupying that forest so Sharon headed the other way.

Grassland hill gold for Imperio hey

                          Tracy continues south.

Winston headed onto the hill to chop. Turn completed.

Grassland gold tile?! Was Cybershy even TRYING when he created this map? What a load of...! Well, you all know how I feel by now.

                              • umm - can I swap teams? Actually - thinking about it, maybe our map advantage is that we are Realms Beyond? Surely that cannot be it.
