  • Turn 205 - 250 BC

    Let's start with diplomacy.
I took the liberty of contacting Banana and offering their Polytheism tech for our Meditation tech and some recon of our soon-to-be Great Spy. No response yet as of 15 minutes ago, despite they have finished their turn.
Nothing was put in the diplobox so far, just a text message.

Realms Beyond was online when I checked on things, and we had a little diplobox chat as well. That's the reason I couldn't capture the whole exchange. (see first screenshot)
Their turnplayer's initial thought was us researching low-beaker techs while they do higher-beaker techs and exchanging them. Nothing said about what ratio.

Our pillage stack is skirting around the danger zone, taking out roads as it goes. Should help delaying a PAL stack trying to circumvent us or try approaching us from a more northern angle. (second shreenshot)

Robin has found the Phrygian tribe, still living in mud huts and defended by two pelt-covered unwashed warriors. He has next turn, with one free promotion left, 71% chance if taking out one of those filthy barbarians. So promoting with the right one will increase those chances. Also, there are signs of a second barbarian tribe 2 plots west of the Phrygians. Since I presume we'll be taking out those barbs ASAP and also since those towns are pretty close to one another I wonder which one we'll obliterate. Also, how about letting our workers build a road to Phrygian already? Will speed up reinforcements getting there.

Production news. Caerbannog has staved of 2 turns from the settler production. 1 turn by a chopped forest, a second turn by a citizen replacement. We'll be running -3 to finish Iron Working next turn as a consequence. (4th screenshot)
I've put a Axeman in the Diggers Burrow queue because of those Phrygian warriors. Sounds to me that unit is the best way to deal with those warriors the soonest. 4 turns as of now, but perhaps next turn we'll manage to stave of a turn of that because the city will grow and we can have an extra 5 output if we switch citizens around. (fifth screenshot)

The Realms Beyond chat sounds very interesting - are they saying they will do straight tech swaps regardless of beaker cost? If so, and there is no other actual commitment - then all good IMO.

Does Robin have any promo's already? Is the one (Drill?) that gives us an extra first strike available? Maybe we need to scout the second Babr city to see which one we want to keep - however Phrygian is closer to our capital, so will cost less in maintenance (not much I know). The Axe in Diggers Burrow for taking the Barb units also makes sense.

I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

        I don't know yet.

With our leaders traits, archers start with the City Defense I and First Strike I promotion. Thus we can promote him to First Strike II, City Defender II, Melee I and Guerilla I for sure.

Comba/Melee I gives us +10% Str yes? I would go with this purely for attack % increase. However First Strike II would make him a better defensive unit as well as offensive.

          First Strike II

I had a look at this - but it seems my mini mod powers have been reduced with the site overhaul and I can no longer edit thread titles in this forum.

It will have to await Rob's return.

Mmm... I forgot about that +25% promo against melee units...
But personally I'm in favor of either First Strike II or City Defender II.

                  Archer get first strike 2

Phrygian will be the keeper, just because we can get it sooner than the other barb city.

A tech deal with Realms Beyond as suggested would be sweet. How many cities do they have.

If Banana isn't going to jump into the war we should start talking with PAL about a peace treaty. And any tech trading we can do with them would be great.
Yes, negotiations could take some time.

6 or 7 IIRC. If you want to know the exact number I'll check the diploscreen next time I'm in the game.

OmniStar sounded ready. I am not completely sure what his role is in banana. I asked for further instructions on what to do and so far have got nada. I have not been following events close enough to be able to wing it.

If there is no interest in getting them involved, then that is cool too. Peace with PAL just seems to leave a bad taste in my mouth though....

Question: Who do you guys see as the aggressors in this war? PAL or yourselves?
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Yeah. I was shocked, simply shocked, to learn about the aggressive sentiments of half this team.
