  • Turn 99 - 400 BC

A good begin of the turn - let's hope it stays that way.

When I logged in, I saw a yet again changed situation (first screenshot). PAL sure needs time to make 3 simple moves.
So, after assessing the situation (screenshot 2), it looked like we had a good opportunity to blunt their forces, namely an attack on the war chariots just next to town.
So, after that little foray the situation looks like on screenshot 3.
The spearman south of VH didn't had a scratch, so its almost impregnable there in the forest. The spearman west of town is down to 3.4 , with 25% defense bonus on the hill, so it should survive an attack unless one of those axeman get promoted and healed beyond 3 .
In any case, we have units in the neighbourhood (1 spear, 1 axeman and 1 chariot) which can next turn attack any counter-attackers without using units in Valley Hutch.

The last 2 screenshots show the production and situation around Diggers Burrow and Caerbannog. That Great General you see there running is on its way. What will we do with him? Found a academy in Diggers Burrow for extra XP on new units, or will we attach it to a unit on the front? Or perhaps a chariot for having a 3 unit?

On the general side, we're running -5 which gives us just enough to finish Iron Working in 6 turns. After that, our treasary will be about depleted.
is full throttle towards Realms Beyond. We can see the stats from everybody else we've met, and research from Banana and PAL.

I haven't pressed end turn yet in case we're sending diplomatic stuff around ingame.

Excellent screenies Geo I'm not sure what to do with our GG, we don't really have enough units to warrant building an army. Otoh, the units we build the army with will get a massive boost in promotions... We could do with some elite troops

      Fantastic stuff Geo!!!

As for the GG, it would depend on your feeling about the situation.....

If you think the tide has turned then I'd build an academy for the long term bonus. If you think we need maximum benefits now, for a short term boost, I'd make an army......

Looking at the power stats, PAL still has a bigger army then us, though they are in decline since the last 2 turns. Granted, some of them are probably guarding their towns except Heliopolis. OTOH, PAL has started whipping again last turn, so I expect they're training more war chariots or axeman.
I don't think this war will be over soon, but the situation is still too iffy IMO. I'd say go for the short term boost now (army), and consider giving us an academy with a second warlord. After all, it's only 10-12 victories to the next one.
That leaves us to decide on what unit we'll attach the warlord. If I'm not mistaken, we have next turn a spearman with 2 promotions (Landsknecht later thus) and a axeman with 2 promotions trying to get home somewhere near the old barbtown location. But a raider/pillager chariot with 3 moves (upgradable to knight later on) has a certain ring too.

Not sure if its worthy in our situation but i believe a great use of a general is to attach to a scout to make a super healer, scouts never get attacked first in stack combat.

I do think a top notch general unit would be usefull for us, but especially one that could pillage deep behind enemy lines. In fact id say a war of attrition is not our best option, so we need to cripple their economy aggresively to turn this thing to our favour.

I would favor settling the great general in Caerbannog. It will give us +2 experience for every military unit create there.

We do not have the tech required to build a military academy (+50% military unit production.) I believe you need Military Science to create that.

Attaching the general to a unit provides 20XP divided among the units in the hex. In addition it provides free future upgrades for the unit the general is directly attached to. Our survival does not hang in a balance that can be tipped by one uber unit. Our survival depends on alliance with another nation(s.) Our greatest long term benefit is settling the general.
Yes, negotiations could take some time.

A litlle bit too far away from the current front, why not put him in Diggers Burrow?

Bad news. Valley Hutch has been razed.
PAL had a lucky combat with a cityraider II axeman against our first spear, and lost a spearman and a axeman against our second spearman.

I think we should make an attempt to take out their army on that hill. I'll have to check if it's possible to use the GG for that.

Okay, did a few tests. If we use our GG to promote our chariot to Morale, Formation, Shock and Combat II we can take out their Goin' Clubbin' axeman with 75% odds, and the rest is just mobbing up. This means that in one strike we can take out their whole invasion stack, not to mention they lose all those XP's and promotions they gathered sofar.
