So, now that I've suckered, erm, managed to get you guys ooppss, oh what the hell, guys in here, can we momentarily dwell upon this concept?
What constitutes an well defended fringe city?
Not knowing beans about multi as you may have surmised, it would be neat to know.
(I'm privately THRILLED to have been invited into such August company because I might learn a few bazillion things.)
WHY are we DEFENDING?
Seriously, I'm a VERY STRONG advocate of not DEFENDING.
Strike their stacks before they reach our cities.
And if we MUST defend, MOST CERTAINLY do not play "point defense" (x troops in every city), but rather "zone defense". (X troops defending a number of cities they can reach before enemy forces can attack said cities).
Ideally, that Zone Defense troopage would consist of plenty of OFFENSIVE units. I'ld go into a detailed example of how this zone defense with offensive units works, but that info is still classified for now. I think a couple here might have seen a portion of it in action, but likely don't realize the full extent of what truly occured...
I will laugh at this team if it makes walls anywhere but a very rare instance. Waste of hammers. Sarantium got a taste of what mockery I make of a 'well defended fringe city with walls and blah blah blah'. It was razed easily. PRE-catapults. Simply by ignoring it, and marching around. Suddenly all those troops were more important in the core cities, and this well defended city was left...not so well defended anymore.
It's a poor opponent who marches up and assails your walled, well defended city. Let us pray that is what we have here.
Well, the AI always attacks fringe cities so I thought... Well nevermind.
UnOrthOdOx plan sounds good to me. That's the good news. The bad news is that if it sounds good to me it's usually not adopted. Thank God I had a mom & dad.
