I guess we sorta need to decide if we want to rush for the new worlds or not.

If yes - then a "water" civ makes sense.

If not - then does this mean we want to dominate the "old" world?

If so - then a good solid mid game UU is called for.

I don't see Chucky fulfilling either of those needs.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I also think religion should be a factor in the decision process. We all know bunnies worship The Great Carrot!!!

Sounds like most of us (except Nugog ) are thinking along the same lines. I like the sound of Pro because I fear our neighbors won't be nice to us. Fin is almost always a good thing; Wang Kon has that combo, Fin plus his UB could be interesting, especially if we can get an early religion through Mysticism. But Fin usually doesn't make a huge difference until mid to late game and I think (never having played MP) that it will be important to establish our territory early. That brings us back to Joao with Exp/Imp and a useful sea UU.

Sorry, Rob. I guess I haven't really cleared it up for you.

              Landsknecht : Medieval : 6 STR : +100% vs melee, +100% vs mounted - Needs Iron

              Janissary : Renaissance : 9STR : +25% vs melee, +25% vs mounted, +25% vs Archery - No resources

              Holkan : Ancient : 4 STR : +100% vs mounted - No resources

I like Charles' boys the best, followed by Mehmed's, then Pacals!

Depends on when you want to do your fighting

Don't forget that Charles' archery and gunpowder boys also get City Garrison I and Drill I (from the protective trait)

I would say that the Old World would be getting fairly full by the time that Engineering is being researched making Charles' sweet spot well timed. Mehmed may be a bit too late, Pacal a bit too early and IMO his UU is a bit to narrow focused....

Chuck's trait combo plays into that line of thought. Imp to grab land, Pro/UU to keep it, and his UB to help pay for it.

So a slobbernocker in the Old World then?

Rathaus : Classical - Replaces Courthouse - -75% maintenance - 4 needed for Forbidden Palace

                        Hammam : Classical - Replaces Aqueduct - +2 happy - +2 healthy

Ball Court : Classical - Replaces Colesseum - +3 happy

I guess this boils down to do we want fewer larger cities, or more smaller cities with lower maintenance....

Buy real estate . . . they ain't makin' any more of it.

I imagine the -75% maint. will help us if and when we go to the new world.

This has always been one of the hardest parts of the game for me.

Charles : Mysticism / Hunting - Good chance for an early religion, good chance to grab some goody huts. Early revealing of Horses a possibility. Best chance to open diplomatic relations before others get a chance to. Archer rush could also be on the cards if diplomacy fails....

Mehmed : The Wheel / Agriculture - Good if we want to lead with a worker, but otherwise of little initial benefit other than early revealing of horses.

Pacal : Mysticism / Mining - Excellent chance of an early religion and grabbing copper if it is in short supply. Chopping and whipping early could give us the head start we will need.

Overall I'd give top spot to Charles, just. Pacal would take second place, while Mehmed looks sad in third..... Charles looks a bit more flexible in my eyes.....

Charles : Imp / Pro - Quick Settler / Quick GG's / Strong Defenders through a large part of the game/ Strong Defence

Mehmed : Exp / Org - Healthy cities, but a bit overkill / Quick workers / Quicker city growth / Quicker improved health and trade / Tighter government / Quicker growth from seas / Quicker production improvement / Quicker maintenance controls / Quicker espionage strength

Pacal : Exp / Fin - Healthy cities, nicely balanced with UU / Quick workers / Quicker city growth / Quicker improved health and trade / Greatly improved commerce

I think I've got to give Mehmed top spot here for general strategy help. Pacal comes a close second, while Charles comes in in third.....
