  • So be it then. I guess we can't force the Templars to open up their forum if they don't want to. I'd like to know what the Templars were thinking, so that I can provide their side of the story in my own writeup of the Demogame. Instead, I'm just going to have to go by our own team impressions (and the Templars do not come off very well from that perspective).

Considering everything that happened during the course of this Demogame, I don't think Realms Beyond will be returning to Apolyton for any further events.

    • No problem Con, I'm resigning as game historian and admin as of this post. I'm still apart of the civ community though.

Unfortunately for you I don't think you'll be welcome anywhere else.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

You can't resign from being a historian before writing your historian's report! I know you're a chemist and probably like me keep a fairly sparsely detailed labbook, but these historians like to write up their research at the end of the whole thing. I'd know - I married one!

        EDIT:

@RobertPlomp: I believe you designed our map? Do you want to write something about that process? It would be interesting to hear how you created it and your thought processes.

        • Your decision Krill, but I wish you would reconsider. Con is being silly And petty. I wish he wouldn't be allowed to ruin one of the few remaining things we have to look forward to in this game.

@all - come join Realms Beyond and play games with us. We're not as big as apolyton but our rules are much less silly.

              I could not agree more.

Leave them private. Con, and all DG players for that matter, should be able to say what they want without fear of later having to worry about if someone will be offended.

I do understand wanting to understand why some decisions were made...perhaps we start a public Q & A thread?

Finally, I must say that the bickering over DGs here is the main reason I am not around much anymore and just decided to pretty much lurk in this one. If Poly wants to keep being a major hoster of DGs then maybe people should all try to get along and work to find ways to respect all people's wishes instead of try to force rules down each others throats.

If Poly wants to continue to host DGs then teams should abide by the rules and customs of DGs, including opening up the forums. CFC doesn't have any problems finding players for their DGs, and no one is loosing sleep over the oh-so-secret internal discussion that players want sealed for life being exposed to all.

This is just a few players being petty to jerk the rest of us around. No one raised any issue over the forums being opened until the Templars decided to start fussing after being eliminated.

By the way, @ the Templar team, remember when you told us "you may kill us but you won't win the game?" How did that work out for you?

                        • This is an extremely disappointing development. It makes me regret our participation in this game to begin with. There's too much bad blood and immaturity around here.

Please reconsider your decision. Just because one person is being an idiot is not a reason to punish the rest of us, who were looking forward to your report.

                            • Not that my opinion carries any particular weight, but can't we compromise? I feel posts in a private forum should be at the discretion of their original poster, not grouped into some vague team entity. I think we should open the forums, but any particular poster (such as conmcb25) should have the right to edit and redact beforehand, up to and including deleting everything if he so desires. But conmcb25 shouldn't be able to block posts from other Templar team members - that should be up to each individual poster in the Templar forum.

Also if Krill really means it about resigning, shouldn't we have a replacement for the position with access to all the forums to fill the historian role?

Like I said, if this is a clear rule of this Demogame, then the forums should be opened.
If this is not a clear rule then a lesson has been learned: make such a rule very clear in your next game.

People, try to stay calm and don't make decisions you may regret in 1 week.
Try to work out a solution together.
There are a couple of question there:

                                1. conm, is it really that important that your forum stays closed? Maybe you can explain to the others why you insist on your position at least.

                                2. Krill, is it really that important that the templar's forum is opened? Or can you also do your job and write a history without making it public?

                                3. Maybe all involved players should vote on what to happen, and in advance all should accept the outcome.

                                4. Is there a clear rule that says that the forum should open, if so, then follow the rule. If not, please make such a rule clear next time.
Our Diplogame suffered from the absence of rules. Our just newly started game now has a very clear defenition of rules.
We had many fights during the last game b/c of the absence of good rules. That was quite ugly. But now we enjoy a new game with solid rules. Leaving in anger in the end only hurts yourself because it removes you from something you factually like a lot.

Do you really want to give that up for a position you took perhaps in the blink of a moment? Sometimes we humans take a position for odd reasons, and then prefer to just stick to it. We humans aren't really good at reconsidering our positions. But man if we can, most people show lots of respect to people who are capable to reconsider for the greater good of the community. So who's the first to become that hero here

soooo: @RobertPlomp: I believe you designed our map? Do you want to write something about that process? It would be interesting to hear how you created it and your though processes.

I did make a map for a demogame once, can you show me the map again then I know if it's this one.
Maybe someone has the private communication we had when I made it. I can then try to create my reasons from some forgotten memory

But you first all need to open your private message box to make that happen!
                                Just kidding

C'mon guys, you just had this long awesome game, don't let it end ugly!
