What we are trying to determine is how many of each type of player we are going to have in this game.
An extreme example: If we have 12 team leaders (who will presumably be playing turns regularly), 2 turn players, and 4 casual players then it is very obvious that we will need to merge teams to avoid running the risk of teams going stagnant and having to be switched to AI control or eliminated.
At the other end of the scale if we have 3 team leaders, 6 turn players and 20 casual players then we would have a very healthy 3 teams indeed.

All we are trying to judge is your anticipated level of involvement. That way, if when the teams get filled we will know which teams need strengthening and which teams don't.

Please don't think that if you sign up as a casual player that you won't be able to play turns etc. Your participation in this game is limited only by your enthusiasm....

Since I don't have a clue what I'm doing and want to avoid people tripping over me this is likely the best corner in which to hide and maybe learn a thing or two.

Been doing this since the original ACDG, but I'm still too self-conscious (and time-limited) to turnplay. So, sign me up for the casual list.

Do you think there would be any merit in having teams composed mostly from players from roughly similar parts of the world.

As has been posted we are likely to have a 'Spanish' team and in the Warlords there is the sort Southern Cross team.

So why not more teams with a geographical core like this.

This might encourage CFC guys to participate and not turn the BTS DG into an Intersite Demogame.

                So for example:

                North Europe
                South Europe
                Africa
                Asia
                USA/Canada
                Southern America
                Australia /NZ

and if enough players, further subdivisions.

Oh and there would be no requirement to choose a civ from the geographical area of the team.

there is no Aboriginal/OZ/ NZ/Maori civ leader, so that might lead to some discussion.

I think it's okay if people want to do that but teams should be formed by free association. Also, it's in a team's best interest to have two potential turnplayers in opposite timezones. >.>

Yup, Southern Cross was formed with 3 NZ dwellers and 2 Europe dwellers.

Nugog has now gone to Papua New Guinea so it will be interesting to see how things develop......

By the way, do casual players have to dress in casual clothes?
