personally I think those guides are more like "stuff that should've been in the manual". There's tons of more usefull stuff in this forum than in any major strategy guide.

    and it's free!
Sorry, but the crap in the PTW Strat Gde should NOT be in the manual! A lot of it was half-baked ideas by the author, in addition to just-plain-WRONG info (e.g., you have to pay maintenance costs for captured workers).

Yes, I bought it, but NO I didn't read it all. Totally lacked credibility.

I dunno what Prima gives the game publisher (besides major $$) to make that stuff the "official" strategy guides...

Now those Nintendo Power strategy guides...those were good!!

and lest I forget Rome on 640K a day?

You can build the FP once you reach OCN/2. On standard maps, OCN=16 so you can build your FP after 8 cities. On huge maps, OCN=32 so you can build your FP after 16 cities.

Well, the strat guide for civ 2 was excellent, so I assumed the one for civ 3 would be on par. Obviously I was wrong. But it does clear up some things like the triggers for small wonders which was lacking in the civ 3 manual, and has much better mappings of the tech tree. I use it as a reference, not a guide on how to win
